For professional reasons I have had to spend long periods of time in Egypt. Whenever this ancient country is mentioned, it is always associated with the great monuments and the historical legacy left by the civilisation of the pharaohs, but rarely is mention made of its people. Today's Egyptians have diverse origins, both geographically, culturally and racially. In fact, the country is home to people with origins in Sudan, such as the Nubians, others of Arab origin, and a host of minorities ranging from the Berbers of the Libyan desert to the Bedouins of Sinai. In terms of religion, Islam is the majority religion, although 12 percent of the population are Coptic Christians and there are still a few small groups of Jews, especially in the capital, Cairo. Here is a small sample of the inhabitants of the land of the Nile and the pharaohs.

*Por cuestiones profesionales he tenido que pasar en Egipto largas temporadas. Siempre que se habla de ese país ancestral, se le relaciona con los grandes monumentos y el legado histórico que dejó la civilización de los faraones, pero pocas veces se hace mención a sus gentes. Los egipcios actuales tienen diversas procedencias, tanto geográficas como culturales o raciales, de hecho en el país convive gente que tiene su orígen en Sudán, como los nubios, otros son de procedencia árabe y un sinfín de minorías que van desde los bereberes del desierto libio hasta los beduinos del Sinaí. En lo que respecta a la religión, la mayoría profesa el islam, aunque el 12 por ciento de la población son cristianos coptos y aún quedan algunos pequeños grupos de judios, sobre todo en la capital, El Cairo. Aquí os dejo una pequeña muestra de los habitantes del país del Nilo y los faraones.*
