Poem / August Swim

**August swim**

All the dorsal muscles flex 
My arm is lifted
One stroke leading the next 
In the water I'm driftin'

Four strokes gone by 
Head up Take a breath
I'm unfit I'm going to die

This water's freezing
It makes my heart stop beating
Every lap is more difficult than the last
My legs are unfit from when I was in a cast

I need to catch up to the rest 
I'm really trying my best
Might've helped if I ate breakfast
Guess after the twentieth lap I'll just passout

It's been four months since I swam last 
The august water is like a brain blast
It's still technically winter
I really can't endure

Finally it's the last set
Then I can get out 
Dry my head
And head home to my bed

In a way swimming laps is like life.  Each lap gets harder, the swimmer gets tired and weaker, but despite it all he makes it and accomplishes what he set out to do.  It takes determination, guts and hard work but he reached his goal.  Now he can rest!  I like the concept, "never give up"!  Have a great day tomorrow!

I must say you are really good.. I liked how you put the words into the poem... I ain't joking but making a poem with rhyming words is not a piece of cake.. Many can't do it. It needs vast knowledge of vocabulary. You cracked it mate..😉 its really good

I love the subject matter of this poem. So many people think poetry is for expressing love, angst about love, the pain of love, or death. Why not write poetry about a cold swim? Or inflation? Or a trip to the grocery store? Very cool. ✍️
