In the spirit of "I do the grinding so you don't have to" here are a couple of compact reviews of titles that I've explored for you guys over the past few years that may be worth a closer look. Enjoy!

If Micheal Bay had directed Gladiator and made a tie-in video game to it, it would have been **Ryse: Son of Rome**. A surprisingly fun, extremely violent and not wholly accurate tale of fallen General Marius Titus slashing his way in actionable combat through various roman provinces of yore. The Unreal Engine does fine work here rendering a very fast paced combat system with a slew of combinations that you can execute. Speaking of executing, the finishing moves in this are delightfully over the top as the camera spins and pans into epic slow motion death scenes. The story is fun and rather hollywoodesque but mostly serves to shepherd Marius from one gorgeous location to the next. Unfortunately the combat and rather limited amount of NPC models make it rather repetitive eventually. Still, the price is good and there is are various multiplayer modes to play with your friends too!

This game should be installed on every school computer the world over. In **Kerbal Space Program** it's the strong combination of humor, scientific principles, game physics and creative crafting that are always entertaining, usually educational, deliciously rewarding and inspiring to boot. From reaching orbit for the first time to touching down on far away worlds, each step and achievement is gratifying and logical while incorporating physics, mats and actual rocket science! The game leaves the success in your hands and you will find yourself launching incredible flying machines into the atmosphere over and over watching them explode spectacularily just to try it again, who knows, the next model might make it to the Mun!

Cute on the outside, unforgiving on the inside. **Don't Starve Together** is one of the most compelling and challenging co-op experiences available. If you've played the original then you'll feel right at home here, it's exactly the same but in multiplayer. The diverse cast of characters, a huge procedurally generated map and the tricky loot and management system offer a unique playthrough each time. The design work in this game is a stand-out, it's like Tim Burton made a video game. The learning curve in this game is considerable, communication and good group logistics will be key to surviving the approaching winter and creating a functioning economy before you starve. It's harsh out there!

**Starbound** takes the best bits of Terraria and common science fiction tropes to create one of the best 2D sandbox adventures out there. The 16bit aesthetics are easy on the eye and the incredibly deep crafting and loot system are engrossing and complex. Recent additions have added meaningful space travel and mech fights which let the game unfold planetside but also in space. Regardless of whether you are an adventurer, trader or builder, your play style will yield its own unique rewards. It's like an infinite Lego set of cosmic proportions with a constantly growing narrative that you style yourself.

The best part about Ori and the Blind Forest is its artwork, no doubt. However, every single aspect of this game from level design, controls to sound design is so fluid, fun and polished it begs forgiving that at its core this is a platformer and indeed, one of the best platformers ever made.
