### And that's why you'll never catch them telling the truth. Now, that's nothing new if you're a regular reader, or if you've ever surfed the internet for something else than cat-pictures.<br>

But there's still billions of people who trust the men and women who present their daily "news" to keep them in touch with the happenings in their country and the world. This is not the case in general, but even more so when we're talking about Fox News and their version of "fair and balanced" reporting. I remember a study by Stanford University, conducted from januari through september of 2003, polling American citizens about [Misperceptions, The Media and The Iraq War](https://web.stanford.edu/class/comm1a/readings/kull-misperceptions.pdf); follow the link to read the full PDF file, but I'll quote the gist of it here.

General findings:

> In the run-up to the war with Iraq and in the post-war period, a significant portion of the American public has held a number of misperceptions that, as we will see, are highly related to support for the decision to go to war. While in most cases only a minority has any particular misperception, a very strong majority has at least one key misperception.

Findings on Fox News viewers in particular:

> The extent of Americans’ misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions. Those who receive most of their news from NPR or PBS are less likely to have misperceptions. These variations cannot simply be explained as a result of differences in the demographic characteristics of each audience, because these variations can also be found when comparing the demographic subgroups of each audience.

People who watch the news are misinformed and are always fed the lines needed to maintain the carefully manufactured status quo to support the plutocracy. I always hear people talking about how much money is wasted on bombs, bullets and other war related costs, but these are the people who are not yet informed about the military industrial complex, and don't understand capitalism. Products that need constant replacing are best for economic growth and profits. Well, bombs explode and need to be replaced immediately. With the explosion a lot of other stuff is destroyed that needs rebuilding. The only thing we can't replace is the souls lost, but profit don't care about that. Your anchormen and anchorwomen are the first line of defense for this broken system. They are the tools bought by the plutocrats used to manufacture the consent needed to safeguard their lofty positions.

I don't watch TV myself unless there's a Formula 1 or MotoGP race (only two weeks and MGP starts again!!) on, so I can't be sure about this, but it seems that Rutger Bregmans heroics are not talked about in Dutch media a lot; if you've missed it, he upset the World Economic Forum, the yearly conference where the world's biggest billionaires discuss their plans for the future, by boldly attacking them on their tax-evasion policies and making clear why these billionaires will never do anything themselves to combat the widening income-gaps. I've linked the full segment above, in case you've missed it.

Since that video went viral, and short segments went even more viral, because, you know, modern attention-spans struggle to focus for more than two minutes, he's been invited on a number of programs, even by Fox's [Tucker Carlson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tucker_Carlson)... But Fox never aired that interview, maintaining their sworn duty of never really informing their audience. In this case however, I can see why they refused to air that interview: if I were in mr. Carlson's shoes, I might have opted to sit on that embarrassing little piece of dialogue as well. Lucky for us though, Rutger decided to tape the entire interview on his side, in Amsterdam.

"You're a millionaire funded by billionaires", says Rutger straight to Carlson's face, followed by "you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" and a plethora of other straight and honest remarks about Fox News' shilling of the status quo. Tucker's reaction are not fit for print, so I'll let you experience that yourself... Maybe it's the little kid inside me, but I was giggling with glee watching this. And I'm all for sharing that joy, so please enjoy :-)
