Earlier this month, the Committee on State Affairs went ahead with introducing <b>HB1204</b>, which would legalize the production and processing of industrial hemp in South Dakota. Their bill recently passed an important House Committee and now is moving on to the House floor for further discussion on the issue. 

# It Passed By A Vote Of 9-2. 

Under the new changes, if implemented, the Department of Agriculture would be required to offer a license for industrial production, if an individual met statutory requirements. A license given out under this program also wouldn't require the permission of any federal authority, but rather that would be left up to state authorities to determine. 

South Dakota isn't the only state that's looking to make some changes in the way of accepting industrial hemp, there are other efforts to embrace this plant and market in areas like Hawaii, Arizona, California, Vermont, and other places.

### If HB1204 gets approved, it will effectively <b>nullify</b> federal prohibition that is currently in place surrounding hemp and the processing of it etc. 
## There are already a number of other states which have done this, by simply making changes to ignore the federal rules surrounding hemp, and they've instead created their own policies. 

Considering the massive economic benefit that could come from industrial hemp production, and the variety of different uses that this plant can go toward, it seems beyond illogical to maintain any sort of harsh restriction surrounding the growing/processing/exchanging of it.

And it's clear that many others out there agree and see possible benefits to be had as well, as there remains a trending move in this direction to embrace hemp rather than restrict it. Which state will be the next one to turn their back on federal hemp prohibition and decide to carve their own route? 

We can use hemp for rope, food, fuel, building materials, decontamination efforts, and so much more. There are thousands of possibilities as to what you can accomplish with this plant and it is for the betterment of humanity to embrace rather than restrict activity surrounding hemp.
