SCHOOL FOR PARENTS: Child Language Disorders

*Hello friends, welcome to **"I love to educate"** is a blog created for educational purposes. To provide support to teachers, students and parents in the teaching-learning process, facilitating the completion of school activities.*

---

If a child in two and a half years does not speak at all or says a few words, this usually causes parents anxiety and goes to the doctor.

Well, ***what if the child talks a lot but badly?*** There are often cases in which a three or four year old baby speaks so badly that only his mother can understand him. It happens that at this age children do not emit some sounds, replace some sounds with others or have a rhythm of speech: they drown very quickly or, conversely, extract words, etc. These violations, as a rule, are of little concern to parents, and tend to say that "young children are generally difficult to understand!"

Of course, in the early stages of speech development, the articulation of sounds in all children is imperfect: they distort, lose or replace many sounds. However, this can be considered the "norm" for children no older than two and a half to three years.

> If joint defects are observed in older children and remain stable, measures should be taken to eliminate them. When these defects are also very pronounced in young children, they should pay attention if they are related to some type of disorder.

Currently, speech disorders have been studied quite well and many of them have been successfully cured. Detailed knowledge of this area is necessary, but having a general idea of it will apparently be useful.

Parents, for example, should know what a deviation from the correct development of speech is, which is related to their disorders. This will help them contact a specialist in speech disorders on time, and the defect can be corrected before. Remember: the more persistent a particular speech disorder becomes, the harder it is to treat it.

### Several main groups of speech disorders can be distinguished:
1. Language disorder or dysphasia.
2. Phonological disorder or dyslalia.
3. Dysphemia, stuttering or early fluidity disorder in childhood.
4. Dysarthria.
5. Social communication disorder (pragmatic).
6. Dysglossia.
7. Tachyphemia or sputtering.
8. Aphasias.

Violations of the pronunciation of sound include inert language (also called dyslalia) and dysarthria, inarticulate speech.

Speaking in tongues is expressed in the absence of certain sounds (the child omits them in words), in the distortion of the sounds (the child pronounces them incorrectly) and in the replacement of one sound with another.

Languages can be functional and mechanical. With the functional tingling of the tongue, hearing and the structure of the articulating apparatus are normal, and the causes of speech disorders are weaknesses in the nervous processes that occur in the brain.

The mechanical form of the tied tongue is caused by congenital malformations of the structure of the oral and nasal cavities (lips, teeth, palate, nasal passages, etc.). With these injuries, not only the pronunciation of the sounds suffers, but very often there are violations of the timbre of the voice, the rhythm of the speech, etc.

Functional blockage of the tongue (jumping, distorting, replacing sounds) in the second or third year of a child's life can be considered a natural phenomenon. There is even a term: "physiological dyslalia." If the pronunciation defect persists at an advanced age, then you should contact a speech therapist.

Most of the defects are observed in the pronunciation of the sounds, which have a difficult form of articulation. In addition, the more complex the articulation of the sound, the more defects there will be.

In cases where the sound is absent or incorrectly articulated, the specially selected exercises establish the correct way to articulate the organs for the pronunciation of this sound.

> If there is a stubborn replacement of one sound for another, this indicates that the child not only has a lack of articulating function, but also a poor discernment of speech sounds.

In such cases, along with exercises to correct the joint, exercises are also performed to recognize the sounds: the education of phonological hearing.

I do not give here the exercises that are given to children to eliminate the defects of pronunciation of various sounds, because in each case the speech therapist takes into account the degree of violation, its characteristics and gives instructions accordingly.

In no case, do not try to correct the pronunciation deficiencies of the child yourself; Here you cannot do it without the help of a specialist.

Mechanical dyslalia is a more serious disorder: after all, the correct structure of the jaws, teeth, tongue and nasopharynx is necessary not only for proper speech formation, but also for proper nutrition, breathing, etc. If these functions are disturbed, the child often gets sick, his body weakens. With mechanical dyslalia, not only the joint often suffers, but also an understanding of other people's speech, because these processes are closely related.

***All of these disorders can be treated completely or significant improvement in speech can be achieved, but you should help your child persistently, with love and faith in success!***
