Warning: Steem witnesses executed a hard fork on 2020-05-20, seizing 23.6M STEEM from 65 accounts. The funds were transferred to an account named @community321, the ownership (and intentions) of which have not been revealed. The witnesses claim to have been targeting accounts which defended against a hostile takeover in early March, but at least 2 accounts on the list have been inactive for over 4 years.

This topic drives me nuts because I can't fathom how people don't think it actually exists. It's like debating with a sack of potatoes sometimes. I am happy to see the attention you have been bringing to this topic.
Last week there was this piece in the Dutch newspaper that People from the city of Amsterdam are tend to die aprox a year sooner than people from other cities due to polution. The researched it. I do believe that we are wasting the planet, mankind are trying to be superiour in any way. I also do believe that local and global governments are focussing to often on the big picture while results can be achieved when you start supporting local (and later global) initiatives.. But that the planet, and we cause of that, need help, that's for sure...
Some governments are doing better than others on this. The first step is to accept that there is a problem and then you may have to make unpopular decisions. That is hard for any politician. I know China is taking some measures, but they do not have to worry about getting re-elected.
I think you are absolutely right. But one dont know that those decisions are the best for the long run. If we indeed just alnowledge the fact that things cant go on this way and that important lifelines ( like bee's, wildlife etc) are disappearing and eventually will harm us even harder ... and we are all responsible ourselves...
The BBC this weekend posted a story with lots of reasons to get depressed about what humans are doing to the planet:
The solutions are unfortunately hard to identify and agree on and harder to implement.
To take one element - habitat destruction.
A bloke in Indonesia can make money farming palm oil, so he does so. This involves deforestation because of the high demand and the desire to make money. So the orang-utans have less and less habitat.
We can tell the guy to stop farming palm oil, but until he has an alternative source of income, that's not going to happen. A public refusal to buy palm oil will reduce the demand, but there'll still be industrial demand and the demand from those who don't care.
And the farmer still needs an income source. To me, this is the fundamental problem - how to make conservation an economic necessity - if it pays to save the planet then the planet will be saved.
Grotesque over-simplification, I know, but puts the idea out there.
The solutions will not be simple and politicians who offer simple suggestions are suspect. What is really needed is a revamp of the whole free market system, but that is unlikely. Everyone is protecting their own interests. The rich west/north needs to take action first as they have more they can do without. A lot of the world is just trying to get to a basic level of quality of life.
I hadn't seen that article, but it meshes closely with what I came up with.
Very true. The attitude of a lot of, er, post-colonial countries (is that a good term) is that the colonial powers had all these luxuries and so now it's their turn. The idea that the West has already pissed away most of the world's resources on perfecting liposuction is not going to sit well with societies that don't have enough to feed themselves.
We have almost destroyed the environment of this planet and we are about to make it a barren, lifeless planet. But, it is also true that rich people will never allow people on this planet to live a natural life because it will deprive them of the richness which they have acquired from the destruction of the environment.
I don't think you can generalise about any group of people. The rich will suffer too if the earth degrades. They have kids too, so it's in their interest to do something to improve it. I hear some are buying up places in New Zealand as it may be a haven, but that is no solution. It needs brave politicians, not brash ones.
Our planet is destroyed. Many companies dig their mining coal and other natural resources in brutal way. In my country there are numbers of mining companies that take big profit from mining but in return to the natural conservation is not balance with the damage. That is bad thing that our government seems has no power to stop or control those mining companies

Have a nice day and sincerely yours,
As far as I am concerned, we have lost our own innate power long ago and are stuck mistakenly thinking and feeling that 'industry' is our only way to create the changes we need. Those who are still conscious have long understood that this mass industrialisation will kill us all if left unchecked - the challenge here, for me, is that many people have an unspoken deathwish and so not only are they not going to change their ways, they actually have an unspoken vested interest in bringing destruction. Add to that the corporate psychopathy that seeks to just amass as much power as possible without thinking of the consequences, because 'we're all going to die anyway'... and you have an epic clusterfuck of a nightmare to fix.
My understanding is that Earth is conscious and is in the process of clearing out that which has not been loving toward her. How exactly that is going to play out is unclear to me, but my course of action remains the same regardless - increase self empowerment without mass industry as much as possible, heal myself on all levels and do whatever I need to to help Earth return to the glory that almost no-one remembers.
Not sure about a conscious earth (Gaia?), but our own efforts are sealing our doom. It is crazy on all sorts of levels, but the quest for wealth and power seems to drive out reason.
It needs brave politicians to change the world order and they seem to be in short supply.
It is the giving away of power to politicians that is part of the problem. Everyone is intended to directly effect the destiny of their lives and the planet without attempting to pass off responsibility to someone else. This is a free will planet. You cannot have free will and give it to someone else at the same time.
