Playing In The Dirt Makes You Feel Better!

The family has all been under the weather here as of late. Just colds the normal thing I guess around the change of the seasons. The hot to cold and then the cold and the rain does not help. We are really feeling like crap and have been for a few days now. I decided that I needed to get seeds for the garden started as I am getting started late and I did not want to have to go buy seedlings to put in the garden and I am hoping things will be on time.

I got a lot of my tomatoes started. I used the seed starting trays that are 12 holes for seeds and then I put them in aluminum pans with lids. The starting trays had lids but would not latch to the tray and they just fall off. So I used the trays to put them in and the pans, which will hold some water so they do not dry out.

Here are a variety of cucumbers and a variety of peppers.I started some heirloom cucumbers and some muncher cucumbers. The other tray has some peppers in it, some are green bell peppers and some chili peppers and some banana peppers.

I planted the three grape vines we wanted today. One is a Concord grape and the other two are a white grape and a red grape. They are all seedless grapes.

Here are the blackberry and raspberry vines I got in today also. I still have to get a trellis or something to let the grapes and berries grow on but I have a little bit of time before I need to get that in. I needed to get them in the ground as we bought them a couple of weeks ago. I want to make sure they do not die on me too.

Last but not least here is the blueberry bush I put in today. I hope they all root and take off growing as this is the first time I have tried grapes and things like this. I still have some strawberries to go in but I will put them in the barrels or in another type of container. 

I am sure that I will have forgotten something and have to go and get some seedlings to plant in the garden later. I do not have lots of room to start seeds right now and I just do what I can in the motorhome I am in. I am working on the small house and the garden at the same time and it does get hectic here sometimes.

 I have to get a belt for my tiller as the belt stretched and will not run the tiller that great, so I will be working on it tomorrow to get the garden tilled up good and get my amendments turned in right. I still have to cut down the 35-gallon barrels and get them cleaned out and get the soil in them. This is a busy time of year for me as I am starting new in my quest for a garden. I hope next year it will not be this busy and things will go smoother for us on the garden. We will have the barrels already cut and soil in them and the garden should be good for next year. I will have to add some manure on the garden and the same in the half barrels but it will be much easier.

When choosing seedlings, seeds is it best to choose all heirloom or other variety's also?
