Here was the king of Assyria sending a message to the people of Judah to stay off the deceit of Hezekiah, with regard to his impending attack on Judah. Come to look at it! Who was deceiving who? The king of Assyria who felt he could bounce on the people of God, prevail against them and make bond men and women out of them or Hezekiah whose eyes were wholly on the Lord to deliver His people out of the hands of the gruesome terrorist, Sennercherib king of Assyria had turned out to be? 


Definitely, Sennercherib was deceiving himself by thinking he could prevail against the people of the living God. He had tried it with other nations and their gods and he prevailed. Unknown to him, the God of Judah is not in the same class with the gods of those nations. Child of God! Your God is in a class of His own. Anyone seeking to rise and prevail against you, with the God of all might as the God over your head, is simply living in self deceit.


Come to look at it. Who can battle with the Lord? Nobody! This was the truth Hezekiah knew so well and he went straight to his Boss – the King of kings with the threat letter from the king of Assyria. He realized he had a Boss over his head and he was at best, a steward of God’s grace. Hezekiah was neck deep in self deceit if for any reason he saw himself as equal to the threat from the king of Assyria. We are not sufficient in ourselves to think of anything as of ourselves. Our sufficiency is of God.



The weapons of our warfare are mighty through God. No matter your handling capability; if it is not being channeled through God, you are deceiving yourself. The people of Judah were the people of God’s praise; Judah is a Hebrew word which is translated as praise.
