# <center><b>Battles</b>    - <i>Futura</i></center>



## Battles is a really strange, interesting

The band was formed 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (guitars, keyboards, programming), who has remained a constant in the group.  Currently, the group is a duo, with Williams and drummer John Stanier, though Dave Konopka (guitar, bass) and Tyondai Braxton (vocals) both used to play with the band.  They are always listed as an 'exerimental' rock band, and though they clearly experiment with wild ideas, I've always found that to be an odd sort of label, though I guess there isn't really anything that could accurately identify the group.  I first found out about the group through their 2007 debut release, <i>Mirrored</i>, which featured the single <i>'Atlas'</i>, which appeared on promotional material for the videogame <b>Little Big Planet</b> (which I LOVED).  This song comes from the band's 2011 album <i>Gloss Drop</i>, which has some great tracks on it, though I have always felt it is a little less consistent than the first album.  However, this song has remained one of my absolute favorites from the band, and is a weird sort of mixture of electronics and guitar/drums, and sits somewhere between rock and dance music in a realm really only inhabited by <b>Battles</b>, haha.</div>
