Grapthar's Song of the Day: The Rolling Stones 'Citadel'

## The Rolling Stones - *Citadel*

## While the Stones are
clearly legends, and a massive part of rock history, I didn't really get into them seriously until a year or two ago. I had always loved the **Beatles** and the **Beach Boys** growing up, but somehow just never was exposed to much of the **Stones**, aside from their major hits, and I was definitely missing out. They formed in 1962, the original lineup consisting of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Billy Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Ian Stewart, though Stewart was no longer an official member by 1963, though he was paid for concerts and studio time over the years. ## This is the second track
from the group's 1967 album ***Their Satanic Majesties Request***, which was released shortly after the **Beatles** ***Sgt. Pepper's...***, and at the time was called derivative and a rip off, though over the years it has taken it's rightful place in the pantheon of rock and roll. They experimented with lots of psychedelic sounds and unique production techniques, much like *Sgt. Pepper's* and *Pet Sounds*, the other two classics of this time period. While I can see why people might find them similar in certain ways, the **Stones** definitely did their own unique thing and created some great tunes.
