After couple of deep inhalations of this fresh mountain air, I'm now thinking where can I find a good cup of coffee and just laze in the sun like a lizard and indulge myself in the state of the famous italian saying "la dolce far niente". Luckily there is a place where I can achieve this state of elevated being and more, at the bakery just across the street from the camping. <center><figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2024-03-21-09-03-159-img_9563-jpg" width="3518" height="2638" /></figure></center> <center><figure><img alt="Caffeine and sugar can take me anywhere :)" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2024-03-21-09-03-289-img_9559-jpg" width="1978" height="2638" /><center><figcaption>Caffeine and sugar can take me anywhere :)</figcaption></center></figure></center> Now that the breakfast is served let me show you around the <a href="https://www.hotelmarkushof.it/">Camping Markushof</a> where I stayed just one night but which exceeded all my expectations. The price was about 15 EUR/person/pitch/day when I was here in 2022 and varies slightly based on the season. So, what I discovered bike touring in Italy is that during high season (mid may to mid september) <b>it's better to call campings in advance, around noon or earlier to make a reservation otherwise it's very possible you will not find a tent pitch available in the camping when you arrive in the evening.</b> These days with a smartphone and Google Maps it's easy to find campings in advance based on your desired daily distance span and I think it's a good ideea to call and book your spot and then just cycle stress free all day knowing your destination and time left available to get there. Also for most people having a hot shower at the end of the day is important not to mention about that cold beer afterwards and the dinner, I know cause I am one of them. Now after some time of doing bike touring I think it's better to cycle less and have more time to rest at the end of the day and also stop when I feel like during the day to see that touristic attraction I will probably encounter on my way and really enjoy the trip, than constantly pushing to cover more distance, not eating properly and arriving late in the evening. Bike touring should not be stressful, it's all about the journey not the destination. In this post I'll try to give you some inspiration from my last trip I did in Italy back in the autumn of 2022 following the <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> north of Peschiera del /></figure></center> <a href="https://www.eurocampingpacengo.it/en">Eurocamping Pacengo</a> was a nice camping to spend a night in, great location near the lake with a good restaurant facing the little port, clean facilities, decent prices and a friendly receptionist which even borrowed me a cable extension to charge my devices overnight, all added to a very nice overall experience for me /><center><figcaption>Arrivederci Eurocamping!</figcaption></center></figure></center> Left the camping and followed the pedestrian route close to the lake mostly because I was curious to see more of this beautiful lake front, but the official bike route follows the paved roads a bit further away. <center><figure><img by the seaside only the water was not salty which is even better, right? Trentinos developed this appellation, the second in the world after Champagne, to ensure quality and distinction. A shower and 30 minutes later I invited myself for dinner on this nice restaurant terrace near the lake. It's part of my anual wish list and it's a meaningful thing for me. On these bike touring trips is where I recharge and find my balance each year, so in a way it's like a holistic trip for me. Presently I'm touring on <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> and so far I only cycled north as far as Copenhagen in Scandinavia. Last year wasn't so great for me financially and Scandinavia is quite expensive so when I had to choose between going north or south on EuroVelo 7, I chose the southern side this time around and headed for Italy. Traveling internationally doesn't come cheap anymore especially in recent years when prices everywhere increased a lot, so building a budget for it is increasingly challenging. Being a family man, our summer holiday has priority of course and for my bike touring extravaganza I need to find my own resources. I was very close to cancel my anual bike trip, actually I haven' t booked anything in advance like I always did. Summer passed and by September I was so frustrated that I had to do something. Luckily I found this very nice and modern recently opened <a href="https://www.google.ro/maps/place/Nomad+Hostel/@45.6559446,12.1883073,3260m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!3m8!1s0x4779371a08636b2d:0xf283a28337c898e8!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d45.6566428!4d12.2102053!16s%2Fg%2F11q7zzcm49?hl=en">Nomad hostel</a> on Booking.com within walking distance from the airport, which was very convenient for me. Unfortunately things don't always work accordingly to the plan cause that day they had a railway strike and so all the trains were canceled until 5 PM. Luckily I could still buy I ticket on the first available train to Verona that evening after the strike ended but was not direct and had to change in Vicenza and to arrive a bit late in Verona around 8 PM. I only payed for cabin luggage and I completely forgot about the tent pegs which are sharp objects and got confiscated of course. I made it on time though but it was a near miss. The hotel rooms are very expensive in Verona the city of love and I was on tight budget. <center><a href="https://travelfeed.io/@discovereurovelo/biketouring-eurovelo7-copenhagen-return-train-berlin-2021">Read this post on TravelFeed.io for the best experience</a></center><hr /> <img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2023-04-27-13-04-333-img_4300-jpg" /> <hr /> This last day of my 2021 bike tour on <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> from Berlin to Copenhagen was mostly a transit day on my way back to Berlin, with a bit of cycling in the morning, a ferry cross at noon and a train ride in the afternoon, a good mix of everything with a drop of nostalgia on top now that I was cycling parts of the route for the second time but on the opposite direction. <center><figure><img alt="Nice weather this morning" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2023-04-21-07-04-434-img_4297-jpg" width="3544" height="2658" /><center><figcaption>Nice weather this morning</figcaption></center></figure></center> Being surrounded by water makes the weather in Denmark quite unsteady and the summers there are quite rainy. As you can see the the velo culture is part of the German lifestyle so all of their public transport infrastructure is designed with the cyclists in mind. Half of this train car can be used to carry bikes onboard which seems like a lot but there are days when even this is not enough, like today :) <center><figure><img alt="Leaving from Rostock with plenty of space to spare" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2023-04-21-07-04-061-img_4320-jpg" width="3544" height="2658" /><center><figcaption> Leaving from Rostock with plenty of space to spare</figcaption></center></figure></center> <center><figure><img alt="One and a half hours later..." src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2023-04-21-07-04-748-img_4326-jpg" width="1994" height="2658" /><center><figcaption>One and a half hours later...</figcaption></center></figure></center> I think the train got so crowded towards the second half of the trip to Berlin because it was on a Sunday afternoon and many people went for a ride in the countryside outside of the busy capital for some fresh air and relaxation, probably exploring the <b>Mecklenburg Lake District</b> and the <b>Müritz National Park</b> and the hundreds of lakes, like I did on my way in and now they were returning back home. <center><figure><img alt="Day 14 map: Bruserup Strand Nature Camp to Berlin" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2023-04-21-07-04-177-gedser-berlin-d14-map-png" width="2106" height="2722" /><center><figcaption>Day 14 map: Bruserup Strand Nature Camp to Berlin</figcaption></center></figure></center> Being the last post of this <b>2021</b> bike touring trip from <b>Berlin to Copenhagen</b> I would like to conclude with some stats and recommendations from my experience: - duration: <b>2 weeks</b>, relaxed ride - distance&terrain: <b>650 km</b>, mostly flat - scenery: canals, lakes, wetlands, forests, sea, beaches - infrastructure: developed route with good signalling - safety: <b>safe</b>, dedicated bike lane with occasional secondary roads sharing - favorite day: <a href="https://travelfeed.io/@discovereurovelo/biketouring-eurovelo7-germany-wesenberg-userin-2021">D4</a> - favorite accommodation: <a href="https://moencamping.dk/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=My%20Business&utm_campaign=Organic">Møn Camping</a> , <a href="https://travelfeed.io/@discovereurovelo/biketouring-eurovelo7-denmark-haarboelle-feddet-2021">D10</a> - total<b> budget 1400 EUR</b> (plane tickets, trains, metro, ferries, bike rent, food, accommodation, museums for two weeks on the road cycling in Western Europe) - overall satisfaction with this route: beautiful route, happy days :) - recommendations: easy, <b>all ages</b>, good for families with kids. This a famous park in the nearest city Pistoia center, I usually went there often when I was a child but I didn't visit it for many years, some months ago it was renovated and we were curious to see it so when we had a day free with my stepdaughter Bianca we decide to take a little trip in the nearest city and see this lark, I was sincerely surprised because it change a lot ! When I was child the park was littler and poor, with few kids toy and few spaces, not a bar or a cycle street, now it's totally different!
First of all I noticed that the park or really bigger and clean, the grass it's super green and neat, there are many little streets die cycling and walking,a lot of seats and a super cool bar in the middle of it.
It's a nice place now, the bar it's so cool with some opaque structures that are perfect in case of rain and that even warm up a little in the evening, they are also really pleasant to look at.The park have also a big parking and it's easy to find, have also new toys really modern and impressive, with a cool design.

The new toys are really surprising and kids love it, it was designed by a Tuscanian architect expert in design for children park .

We really enjoyed our walk in the park and my stepdaughter enjoy the toys, its really a super nice park we will return there soon as we can.

My last day in Denmark is set for an early start cause I needed to take care of few logistical things this morning. To add some perspective, I started my trip in Berlin from where I also rented my bike so now that I've reached my destination I somehow need to return back. I was thinking there should be a train connecting Copenhagen to Berlin and sure there is but if booked on short notice it can be quite expensive considering also that summer is a high demand season of the year for passenger rail transportation in EU. Long story short, there was no direct train ticket available for me and my bike back to Berlin that day even if I was willing to pay the high price. So now I was looking for an alternative which I eventually found in the form of a not so comfy but practical and budget friendly solution: splitting the trip into segments with some cycling in between. First segment was boarding a local train from Copenhagen to <a href="https://www.google.ro/maps/place/4800+Nyk%C3%B8bing+Falster,+Denmark/@54.7809913,11.8674508,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47ad2fd65c4f6387:0x474abab757992004!8m2!3d54.765422!4d11.875492?hl=en">Nykobing Falster</a>, second one was cycling back to <a href="https://www.google.ro/maps/place/4874+Gedser,+Denmark/@54.6156551,11.885087,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47ad22435cb16b6b:0xa00afcc1d50dd00!8m2!3d54.574422!4d11.931194?hl=en">Gedser</a>, third crossing with the ferry to <a href="https://www.google.ro/maps/place/Rostock,+Germany/@54.1474657,12.0034363,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47ac50ac3bdc3837:0xd2f6e3e68f599ec3!8m2!3d54.0924406!4d12.0991466?hl=en">Rostock</a> in Germany and finally the forth segment would be taking another local train from Rostock to <a href="https://www.google.ro/maps/place/Berlin,+Germany/@52.5067614,13.2846522,11z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47a84e373f035901:0x42120465b5e3b70!8m2!3d52.5200066!4d13.404954?hl=en">Berlin</a>. Where to go first? Its residents do not ride bicycles because they have some special cycling gene or because they care more about the environment than other people. <b>They ride because it's safe, fast and easy to get around by bike in the city in their daily lives</b>. The backbone of a city designed for cycling is a <b>network of protected bike lanes</b>. In Denmark, <b>unidirectional bike lanes are separated from both the pavements and the road by a kerb</b>. I am from Romania and my first thought after reading the info above went straight to our capital <b>Bucharest</b> which is the most crowded European capital and 5th in the world in terms of traffic jams. Considering the terrain is mostly flat in Bucharest like in Copenhagen I think our politicians should meet and cycle together in Copenhagen and may be share that vision of a liveable, people friendly and sustainable capital. My friend and I are riding our bikes and setting off on a long day-long journey from Pilsen to the city of hops, Žatec. The end of the route ended up being inglorious thanks to the weather, in any case, sit on the bike with us, at least virtually. And pedal hard! We're just leaving. The itinerary is already prepared.**  It is Sunday August 19th. At 6:00 we leave for Žatec. We also risk a slightly more unfavorable weather forecast. It's foggy outside, 17°C. We'll see how it develops further. We are heading to Třemošná. At 6:10 we pass the turn for Škoda - nuclear engineering, the site of the former Bolevec munitions factory, destroyed by explosions in year 1917. We will continue along main road No. 27 until we reach our destination. The morning is damp and foggy. The sky seems pretty good so far. 6:13, TREMOŠNÁ. The main road is calm for now. Yet. Avg. fast 18.0 km/h. 4.4 km. Everything is being modernized here, houses, new factories, not only for ceramics. Třemošná is a long town. We therefore shorten our journey here by taking a side street around the school to avoid sharp turns. In short, it is very steep. The speedometer blinks, the fog takes effect. At 8.8 km, we pass an ancient cylindrical milestone with an onion-shaped head, perhaps somehow related to the Plask monastery. However, due to time constraints, we cannot view it properly. Before long, we pass the turnoff to Horní Bříza and the farm Býkov. At the thirteenth kilometer, fog is falling. Visibility 15 m. We turn on all the lights we have. Hopefully the drivers will see us. Visibility drops to about 10 m and after a while to 6. We slow down, afraid that we won't have to stop. Oh woe! Our glasses are starting to fog up! Also, we're entering KAZNĚJOV shortly after. Visibility is already almost good. There is also a lot of construction and repair here. 15 km. Avg. fast 17.3 km/h. Driving time 50 min. Kaznějov is a modern city with a small chapel and large industrial plants. The road to Kaznějov led alternately between fields and forests, so it should continue until Plas. We start the climb at the end of Kaznějov. We go down to the village of RYBNICE. We pass a car dealership. There are even sidewalks with castle paving. At 7:20 we pass the forest turn to Plasy airport, where interesting events took place yesterday. A spectacular descent awaits us on a quality road to Plas. The recommended speed here is 40 km/h. We will try to comply with it. We notice a rut sign in the 1 km section. As we soon find out, the brand wasn't lying - the dormitories are really terrible. Some drivers are forced to brake sharply here. We go down the bends to Plas. If it weren't for the fog, the view of the city would be beautiful. 7:23. Finally PLASY. We cross the Střela River. On the left, we pass a Cistercian monastery with a church and a pond, which is quite dilapidated, but is already starting to be repaired. The entire convent stands on oak pylons, strengthening its foundations on swampy ground. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain a constant water level in its underground. A terrible ascent from the Plaska valley awaits us. Local roads are being diligently repaired here. We make sure that the town of Plasy is really enclosed in a valley, because we leave on its other side. 7:36. The state road is even being milled here, so we will be delayed for about a minute by the detouring of the construction machinery. 7:46. The top of the hill. Traveled 25 km. It's strange, but the milled road still continues. Solitude of Sokolka, 497 m a.s.l. Traveled 25.7 km. The sun appears between the clouds and the fog. The repaired road ends at 27 km. The older, but better quality continues. The fog is lifting. We continue through the open countryside between the fields in the direction of Hadačka. On our left, we pass the half-covered Sechutice farm. 29.2 km. HADAČKA. It's 8:34. At a local inn, we're drawn to a noble coat of arms. Otherwise, this village is quite arranged; it forms one whole with Výrov, another village to the right of us. We continue the figure skating. On the left, a beautiful former mine is already shining. the provostship and the monastery of Mariánská Týnice, but unfortunately still in a haze, just like Kralovice with the tomb of the Gryspeks in front of us. The cycle path begins - the parking lane. Traveled 32 km. We drive through the modern parts of KRALOVICE, leaving the beautiful square aside, as we have already visited it in previous years. We also pass a fire station and a strange church with an unplastered brick tower, it looks modern, but the narrow windows indicate its older origins. We also pass the Kralovice dairy, a well-known manufacturer and supplier of Pilsen shops. We leave this town around the repaired bell tower. HUBENOV. 508 m a.s.l. At 35 km we turn a little to the right from the main road to the worm. brand. This is the former baroque courtyard of the Plask monastery from 1730-34. It consists of a castle, an entrance building and a polygonal storage room (1). We stop at a dirty pond full of loudly squawking ducks. The yard is somewhat dilapidated, but if it were repaired, it would be really beautiful, like Býkov u Hromnice. The yard lying in the meadows is privately owned, inaccessible. We're back on the road. 37 km. Motorest St. Hubert with a wooden floor. We are leaving the forest. HIGH LIBYN. 39.3 km, av. fast 16.4 km/h. A relatively small and insignificant village, we would say. But a mistake! We are in the village of the year! In the village, a plague column, a pond, a wooden ČSAD stop and a small park. It is quite well maintained here, but some buildings are in a worse condition, unfortunately even the church. 41.8 km. 9:33 – Rakovník District reached, Central Bohemian Region. We continue through a part of the forest called Cat's Trap. To the left of us is the hidden protected area Rybníky u Podbořánek. It's 9:38. Because of the patch itself, you can't even see the road itself. Fortunately, the quality of the surface did not suffer. SUCCESS. A significantly dilapidated village, the church is in danger of collapsing. 9:34, we pass the bend past the "Ve smyku" pub. Jesenice is only 5 km away. APPLAUSE. 950, 46.3 km. Passing a pretty chapel, the corners of which are lined with reflectors due to unruly drivers speeding through the dark night, we speed away from the tiny village on the deteriorating road. We don't even count the memorials to the drivers who died tragically. A sharp descent with turns awaits us. The surface of Velké rybník undulates directly below us to the left. (2) We cross the Mlýnský stream and dimly notice the Dolní and Horní Fikač ponds. 9:53 – JESENICE. 48.3 km. A small town with sidewalks and a road lined with trees. We go around the castle with a new yellow facade, a nice church and a museum in the former building. farmhouse. Žatec is approaching, the signs say 29 km. They even have a school supply store in the half-timbered building. Dilapidated school. The information panel says 31°C here, which of course we don't believe. It is probably in the same condition as the information panel in Pilsen near the main post office, announcing 2 degrees even in summer. The road continues to wind between fields. Jesenice disappears in the distance. The road is full of potholes and mainly ruts. There is even a neglected footpath on its right side. As it turns out, it leads to a cemetery. Šibeniční vrch – we are 460 m above sea level. Before long, we pass the turns to St. Petersburg (3) and the ruins of Šprymberk Castle on Vlčí kopči. Hopefully we'll see it there sometime. 55 km. We cross the E48, connecting Prague and Karlovy Vary. Directly in front of us on the horizon stands a building reminiscent of Bratislava Castle. However, it will be some kind of cement plant. And of course hops. The sun has come out, but the landscape is still in a haze. We pass the turn with the Louny district sign. On the right, fertile fields with red clay, on the left, a forest. 57.4 km. Ústí region reached - Louny district! Is 10:52, avg. speed 17.2 km/h. ENGINEER. 1053. A special village with farms, but also with sparsely scattered houses. Žatec 20 km! At 11 a.m., we pass OČIHOVEC on the left. The wind is picking up. Traveled 61 km. We are now in OČIHOV, in the part called Hradčany. A white church rises to the left in the center of the village. 61.5 km driven. Ahead of us are hop farms in Žižek's moat. We pass a hop processing plant with many conveyors of green leaves and cones. We are entering a special region with hills. Practically nowhere on the horizon do we see forests, only fields. To the right, a concrete bunker from the other world stares menacingly at us. war, the so-called ropík. Hopefully, heavy machine gun fire will never be heard from it again. BLŠANY - FK Chmel. 63.4 km. Such a small village, yet so famous in the football world. We notice the repaired town hall, the unfortunately dilapidated church, but also a nice park, rather a village. We have only 15 km left to Žatec. We can still feel road no. 27 under our wheels. We cross the Blšanka river. The steep climb towards the end of the village really caught us by surprise. At the 67th kilometer, fields with corn alternate with fields with sunflowers. It's a pity that the flowers are not turned upside down, so we only see the green area. 69th kilometer. We can't believe our eyes. On the right side of the road, there is a thing that we would expect to see in Western Europe – in a bend, yellow traffic signs and above them – wonder of the world – a solar panel (!!!) PSOV. No, we are not near Žlutice, but 9 kilometers from Žatec. The village is in a sad state, full of ruins, including the church. The road continues downhill. We are worried about the return trip. 70 km. SÝROVICE. The village is made up of houses from the 1950s. The road is as straight as a bullet. Let us look around, as we look around, far and wide no forest. The landscape is hazy even though the sun is still shining. We are still heading north. 75 km. RADÍČEVES. Žatec 4 km. A completely renovated village with a pond, a castle under reconstruction and a row of trees shading the alleys. And horrible bumps on the side of the road. We continue through a monotonous landscape. It is getting warmer. In front of us, emerging like an oasis in the desert, white blocks of flats. An unmistakable sign of the civilization of a larger agglomeration - Žatec. And we are already taking photos of the renovated historic waterworks by the road from 1890. It gives us the impression of ancient buildings. The weather is starting to deteriorate sharply. 78.16 km. ŽATEC – our goal today! We drive through a housing estate. Sky - almost cloudy. 1210, average speed 17.8 km/h. The royal city of Žatec. We pass the first of the Žatec churches. He would need to restore. And a museum. We drive through the local park and look for the center. A green house peeks out from one of the side streets – the hop museum. And we're already trudging down to the right on the cobblestones. And finally we see it: a large church and very well-preserved walls with bastions, surrounding the core of the city like a solid shell. All renovated, of course. Through the beautifully repaired yellow gate, we enter the long and irregular square, rather timidly emerging from the shadows of the baroque church. Unpleasant sounds of an approaching storm are heard from the sky. The square is beautiful, with picturesque houses, a white town hall and churches. Unfortunately, we cannot take photos because the weather does not allow us to do so. It starts to rain heavily. And it rains and rains. We are hiding in the archway. Time is pressing us. We must act. We have to find the station. We say these words with undisguised disappointment. So infamous that our route ends? We can't take any chances. The rain doesn't stop. We get dressed and head out. Whipped by streams of water from above and below, we drive through the city. We look for the station and ask local people. Finally. Completely soaked, we find a chipped building. Barely. Our train leaves in less than 20 minutes. We have a lot to do to get the forms done, tune up our bikes and get ready to go. Of course the weather is improving a bit. But we don't have time anymore. We pay 140 CZK. It is 14:48. We will be in Pilsen around 17:40. The train is coming. We help load the bikes and sit in the compartment ourselves. We hang up our wet clothes and discuss our route. The dispatcher blows his whistle. Every minute we are closer to Pilsen. An oppressive feeling comes over us. The sun is shining outside again. But we came from nearby Mishima, and it only took about 45 minutes to cycle there along quiet roads.</p> <p>Its not the most impressive of festivals, its a local event and, as such, is pretty quiet and pleasant. There are paths which run along both sides of the river, and run up to the surrounding hills. Kamaboko are fish cakes, umeboshi is pickled plum and umeshu is plum sake. Being famous for plum products, its beautiful in the early spring for its plum blossoms. We went to two places in the city last Thursday, which was a national holiday in Japan. We rented electric bicycles near the beautiful Odawara Castle and set off up into the hills towards our first destination. Odawara Flower Garden is a nice spot overlooking the city with a large greenhouse full of exotic plants which you can see for a small fee, a fantastic rose garden, great to see later in the year, and a lovely plum garden. There was a small festival there, some food stalls and seating near the glasshouse and small performances in the plum orchard. <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-140-img_4360-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> There were some people there, but not as many as previously, maybe because the blossoms have been a little late this year? Anyway, we wandered around the park and the blossoms were pretty much fully open, and the day was warm and sunny. <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-904-img_4369-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-378-img_4383-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-279-img_4378-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-868-img_4363-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> We got back on our bikes and set off down the hill through the newly built park, to a nice ramen restaurant, and then on to the main area for seeing blossoms, the Soga Plum Grove. Its on the opposite side of the valley which Odawara spreads over and its the quieter side of the city. The plum orchards are all over the place there; from small ones in peoples back gardens, medium sized ones in temples and along roads, to the large ones, like the main Soga plum orchard. We first cycled to the temple, Zuiunji. There was no one there! Which was a surprise. Usually there are small events on for the plum blossom season, but as they bloomed late, all the entertainment was over. The temple grounds are small but beautiful and in a quiet area. <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-432-img_4390-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-639-img_4384-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> Getting back on our bikes again, we cycled through small plum orchards through the quiet houses dotted around by the hills and to the Soga Orchards. <figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/justinchicken%2F2023-02-25-04-02-381-img_4396-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /></figure> At the center of the plum blossoms, the usual row of food stalls and souvenir shops were here as were the crowds. We got some ice cream from the really delicious shop nearby, Odawara Bokujo Ice Kobo, bought a drink of Umeshu in the festival and went and sat down under the blossoms. You can rent a bicycle like we did for 1000 yen, or take a bus to both places from Odawara station, or get a train to Iidaoka and walk to the flower garden and then the train to Shimosoga Station, although it can take some time unless you time the trains right. Its exterior design resembles a gigantic stranded ship, also the same theme is present at the interior with a hull like shaped art shaft and big iron doors with visible bolts and nuts and metal stairs. I would recommend this trip to everybody regardless of age and experience, it's mostly flat terrain with beautiful nature and history all along this amazing <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> route which connects the european continent from North to South. <center><figure><img alt="This must be a very popular terrace" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2022-11-21-10-11-639-dsc01870-jpg" width="5184" height="3888" /><center><figcaption>This must be a very popular terrace</figcaption></center></figure></center> <center><figure><img src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2022-11-21-10-11-230-img_4127-jpg" width="1994" height="2658" /></figure></center> Accommodation is quite expensive in Copenhagen so the only thing I could find to fit my budget was a bed in a hostel called Generator for about 40 EUR which was well located close to the capital's main attractions. The neighbourhood must be a popular destination for young people cause I've seen a lot of pubs and clubs around and the streets were packed, especially back in the summer of 2021 when everybody was taking a break from Corona. We thought so too. But no.<br>You simply visit the store from the factory, where you can buy all the products manufactured at the factory price. They introduced the first rums to the Cayman Islands, primarily as a souvenir for the growing tourist and cruise passenger business.<br>In 1987 they opened the first duty-free liquor store in Tortuga, and later that year introduced the world famous Caribbean rum pie.<br>For years, Carlin has baked rum pies for special occasions using a family recipe from four generations. Friends in the food business encouraged her to make her part of the Tortuga line. First seen at a local restaurant, her delicious rum cake was an instant hit.<br>By 1990, demand was so great that the company expanded into a bakery, making its cake the Caribbean's first commercial rum pie. In 1991, a vacuum seal packing machine was added. This process immediately extended the shelf life of the cakes to twelve months, or indefinitely if refrigerated or frozen, ideal for distribution and shipping anywhere in the world.<br>In 1997, Tortuga Imports/Tortuga Rum Cake Company opened in Miami, Florida with worldwide distribution, mail order and online sales. The company, led by Robert's daughter Monique and her husband Marcus Simmonds, has been on the INC5000 list of the fastest growing privately held businesses in the United States for several years in a row.<br>On January 2, 2012, Tortuga Rum, Tortuga Imports, and Tortuga CRC Jamaica and Tortuga Barbados/Baker's Choice franchise bakeries combined their regional interests and merged into a new international food group, Tortuga International Holdings, Limited. At the same time, Jamaica Producers Group, Ltd. (JP), an established international food specialty group, has made a strategic investment in Tortuga International. Marcus Simmonds was named Chief Executive Officer and Monique Hamati-Simmonds was appointed Marketing Director at Tortuga International. Robert and Carlin Hamati continue to own Tortuga Liquors, their wholesale and retail liquor distributor in Grand Cayman, and are shareholders of Tortuga International.<br>If we talk about rum cakes (cakes, cakes), then their range is very large, just like the look and packaging. By the way, I just found on their site that they've been awarded <b>Denmark's best campsite 2021 + 2022</b> by German ADAC, which is well deserved considering all the facilities and services they offer but I personally still prefer smaller campings like the one I've stayed in <a href="https://travelfeed.io/@discovereurovelo/biketouring-eurovelo7-denmark-haarboelle-feddet-2021">yesterday</a>. Camping</a> just in time to set my tent while still on daylight but unfortunately to late for the check in, the reception was closed when I arrived which usually means I'll take a cold shower tonight because they have this token system implemented which grants you hot water only if you have it and they provide this token at check in. Found my coffee and some freshly baked pastry and a nice quiet corner table to enjoy my breakfast. Was not expensive, the natural setting is simply beautiful and the services are above expectations...plus I just read on their site now (2022) that: "The hiking trails around the astonishing <a href="https://www.klintekongensrige.dk/en/">Møns Cliff</a> has been announced as <b>the best hiking trail in Europe</b>. From the campsite you can take a day trip to do the hike." Wish I've knew that when I was there so I could have stayed an extra day and do it myself, but hey you can do it! <center><figure><img alt="Some local danish pottery on the side of the road" in the evening just in time to set camp while still on daylight. Apparently this is a luxury camp which I found out soon enough at reception when I had to pay more than 50 EUR for a tent place and shower, which set the record for me as the most expensive overnight camping stay to date. <center><figure><img alt="Bike2Tent concept" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/discovereurovelo%2F2022-07-08-08-07-925-img_3815-jpg" width="3544" height="2658" /><center><figcaption>Bike2Tent concept </figcaption></center></figure></center> You can rent those upper tents if you can afford them, but I suggest better buy one on your way here and use it for the next 10 yrs, it will cost the same. I can wholeheartedly recommend my tent which I bought from Decathlon and happily used for the last two years in various places and wether conditions. This <a href="https://www.decathlon.ro/p/cort-dom-trekking-mt500-3-persoane-gri-portocaliu/_/R-p-311272?mc=8556125">Forclaz Trek MT500</a> has a brilliant design with the flysheet and bedroom pre-assembled, you only need to push in the 2 poles and another 6 pegs into the ground and that's it, in 5 min your are all set up and the best part is that you can do it all by yourself, no extra help needed, then go have that precious shower and enjoy your dinner in your new neighbourhood. I was not surprised to find out now that this tent won the <b>best backpacker tents rewards in 2020</b>. Today I'm a bit excited because we are going to change countries and take the ferry across the Baltic Sea to Denmark which is a first for me.

Nice sunny august morning here in Rostock, had to clear the room by 10 AM as I agreed with the owner, which by the way was not very flexible when I asked him for an extra hour extension to go buy that missing phone charger I was telling you about in the previous post. Anyway I packed and left for the nearest coffee shop in order to plan the day ahead over a cup of coffee which was an inspired decision.

After spending some time at Café Bohne checking the ferry time table and other travel details related to Denmark in times of Covid and also a possible camping location on the other side, was now time to go out in the sun to discover Rostock old town pedestrian area.

I decided to take the ferry in the afternoon so I had plenty of time to visit the St. Mary's Church interior where I discovered a <b>fifteenth-century astronomical clock that's the only one of its kind in the world still in working condition with its original clockworks</b>.

The ferry service between Rostock-Gedser is provided by <b>Scandlines</b> on a 2 hours interval for about 25 EUR for a bike tourist depending on the season, better check their <a href="https://www.scandlines.com/prices/rostock-gedser/">web site</a> for up to date information.

Inside the ferry you can find places to eat depending on the budget, a duty free shop and even buy a brewed Starbucks coffee to enjoying with the sea view.

The Baltic Sea is the youngest sea on our planet, characterised by low salinity and abundant sea life and is surrounded by 9 countries.

For a long time I've been waiting to cycle in Denmark which is the most bike friendly country in the world. Here <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> shares the same route with National Cycle Route no. 9 for about 300 km. Looks like there is even a <a href="http://www.bike-berlin-copenhagen.com/">Berlin-Copenhagen bike route web site</a> where you can find more information about organised tours on this route, bike rental solutions and transportation to get here plus other tips from the locals. Also you can check my previous posts for a visual day by day cycling story on this route all the way back to Berlin.

You know that joke on how to eat an elephant? One piece at a time. I try to apply the same strategy here with the 7700 km long <a href="https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7">EuroVelo 7</a> route. I only pray for peace and good health and eventually we'll do it together.

That big cylinder on top is actually spinning and is called a <b>rotor sail</b> and helps reduce the fuel consumption and emissions by 5-20% depending on the wind direction and intensity. It uses the Magnus effect to develop lift that helps with additional thrust to the ship which reduces the load on the main engine and so the fuel consumption. The rotor sail was developed in 1920s by the german aviation engineer and inventor Anton Flettner.

It can get quite windy in Gedser and in general the weather here is ever changing so it's nice to have these shelters around, you can even book them in advance at <a href="https://gedsernaturcenter.dk/">Gedser Nature Center site</a>. There is access to drinking water, a cold shower, a campfire place and toilet on site, no Wi-Fi all for 5 EUR/night/person/tent.
