![Thileswood.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTef5bJv1qPPGyHyAKmMVZFKbwDFoSmhVx1Lxz3PgjHW5/Thileswood.jpg)

Kari Fullbuster-Karkaldwin, found as a war orphan with innate magical power and raised to be a protector of the land of Vorland under the mentorship of her adopted mother, Lucia Fullbuster alongside her sister Marvella. A gifted cyromancer and a bit of an airhead, she had a chance encounter with Venser at the Dragon's Head Tavern and Inn while doing mercenary work. Eventually the two hit it off, began to advebture together, calling themselves Ice and Lightning. Later the two tied the knot and sired twins together, Soarin and Lucinda. With the looming threats on the eastern frontier Kari does her best to still be the protector she was born to be while trying to raise her children and care for the large family she has found herself in.

Props to my artist, Shiloh Roper. Good work as always.

This is an OG character of mine from my dungeons and dragons days. A half-orc rogue/fighter who uses a great axe to dismember his targets in a silent flurry of swings. He rocks a breastplate of blacksteel armor, dark leathers and cloth underneath, and oh right. He's a painter.

D&D maker backs off new licensing rules that led to fan revolt
![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRe9fZTVQQf4UC4z5hNY7RdkCqV2zME8jFwoJAbmFyBjg/image.png)
After more than a week of controversy, Dungeons & Dragons maker Wizards of the Coast says it’s backing off plans to alter its Open Gaming License in a way that incensed fans and led to some calling for a boycott.

On Friday, Wizards issued a statement responding to a leaked draft of the Open Gaming License, also known as the OGL. The Hasbro-owned company now says that it will not require creators to pay a royalty, and that content previously created for the 5th edition of the tabletop role-playing game will “remain unaffected.”

Wizards’ statement reads like a full retreat:

When we initially conceived of revising the OGL, it was with three major goals in mind. First, we wanted the ability to prevent the use of D&D content from being included in hateful and discriminatory products. Second, we wanted to address those attempting to use D&D in web3, blockchain games, and NFTs by making clear that OGL content is limited to tabletop roleplaying content like campaigns, modules, and supplements. And third, we wanted to ensure that the OGL is for the content creator, the homebrewer, the aspiring designer, our players, and the community — not major corporations to use for their own commercial and promotional purpose.

Driving these goals were two simple principles: (1) Our job is to be good stewards of the game, and (2) the OGL exists for the benefit of the fans. Nothing about those principles has wavered for a second.

That was why our early drafts of the new OGL included the provisions they did. That draft language was provided to content creators and publishers so their feedback could be considered before anything was finalized. In addition to language allowing us to address discriminatory and hateful conduct and clarifying what types of products the OGL covers, our drafts included royalty language designed to apply to large corporations attempting to use OGL content. It was never our intent to impact the vast majority of the community.

However, it’s clear from the reaction that we rolled a 1. It has become clear that it is no longer possible to fully achieve all three goals while still staying true to our principles.

Wizards says that the new OGL “covers only content for TTRPGs. That means that other expressions, such as educational and charitable campaigns, livestreams, cosplay, [and virtual tabletop platforms] will remain unaffected by any OGL update.” Furthermore, any content already created based on the existing OGL “will also remain unaffected.”

That statement is clearly intended to put at ease the many individual creators who now publish casual actual plays of their groups playing D&D, as well as companies who have invested time and resources into building online tabletop platforms like Roll20 that rose to prominence during the pandemic.

Wizards is also doing away with its proposed royalty structure:

What [the new OGL] will not contain is any royalty structure. It also will not include the license back provision that some people were afraid was a means for us to steal work. That thought never crossed our minds. Under any new OGL, you will own the content you create. We won’t. Any language we put down will be crystal clear and unequivocal on that point. The license back language was intended to protect us and our partners from creators who incorrectly allege that we steal their work simply because of coincidental similarities. As we continue to invest in the game that we love and move forward with partnerships in film, television, and digital games, that risk is simply too great to ignore. The new OGL will contain provisions to address that risk, but we will do it without a license back and without suggesting we have rights to the content you create. Your ideas and imagination are what makes this game special, and that belongs to you.

The tumult kicked off on Dec. 20 when, according to sources verified by Polygon, a new version of the Open Gaming License (OGL) was shared by D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast with some of its close publishing partners. The OGL was developed and refined in the lead up to D&D’s 3rd edition, and has been in place for some 20 years. It is part of the legal framework by which creators have been able to build their own tabletop RPGs alongside Hasbro’s own brand. It has given rise to games like Pathfinder, as well as successful companies Paizo, Kobold Press, and many more.

But according to io9, which reported to have seen this draft in full, the document included multiple trap doors that could have easily ensnared these same companies. Among them was a clause that revoked the existing OGL, thereby pulling the rug out from under dozens of publishers and independent creators. Another clause required OGL-related earnings to be reported directly to Wizards. Finally, for those making more than $750,000 from OGL-related materials, Wizards would demand a 25% royalty payment beginning in 2024.

On Dec. 21, the D&D team published a blog post hoping to tamp down on concerns. In that post, Wizards said its royalty scheme would impact “fewer than 20 creators worldwide.” But following the leak of the draft, fan outrage spiked. Many organized under the #OpenDnD hashtag, while others called for fans to cancel membership in D&D Beyond, the online version of D&D. That effort temporarily overwhelmed portions of the D&D Beyond website. Meanwhile, several online petitions also started gathering signatures — including one from former Wizards vice president and OGL architect Ryan Dancey.

One D&D. The clue was right there, in the name.

Brand confusion is something all major brands suffer. Because own brands and renegade brands and imposter brands and counterfeit brands steal elements of trade dress to pass off their bran flakes or washing powder as similar enough that a cost conscious consumer - or an idiot - buys their competing brand.

Competing brands existed begore OGL of course 'for the world's best selling rpg' with system agnostic 'rules' was the pre 2000 equivalent of the ubiquitous d20 logo.

Because all rpgs are fruits of the D&D tree.

Here's the thing.

Rarely are supermarket own brand jaffa cakes the quality of the original product. But with D&D almost every game system is better. It's like insisting we eat gruel rather than caviar.

Now, I love D&D. I love it for its wierd fetishes and manic creativity. But OGL was what made the tree blossom with a hundred thousand crazy fruits. It turned little known designers with their own small press companies into household names (at least in my house), and many of whom are my personal friends. it gave a framework into which an entire industry could thrive. And maybe some of its fruits weren't to everyones taste - Book of Erotic Fantasy anyone? - but that wasn't the point.

We were a broad church.

And now?

Nobody expects the brandish Inquisition.

Wizards want to burn it all, but with fire and sword. And lawyers. They want to tax the big players and squeeze out the weirdos. To sanitise. To create conformity and police thought, to preserve brand integrity and profitability.

All my friends are targeted for reaping.

Do people honestly think this will make the industry better? Do people think it will increase profits? D&D books sell for me in a factor of ten to one against the esoterica. Do wizards think the same people buy both?

Gentle reader, they do not.

Me? I want to see a hundred thousand freak flowers bloom. I don't sell washing powder or bran flakes. I sell happiness. I sell dreams and belonging, wonder and adventure. And history tells me the more you try and crush the butterfly, the more it's existence will mock you. Far better to cover yourself with nectar and let a hundred thousand brightly coloured lepidoptra flourish.

There's an idea... for the Book of Erotic Fantasy Volume Two.!

It's been a while since I uploaded to Steemit. First I got more attention for a demo-recording then I did for my own a cappella covers (which took much more effort and time) which sapped my motivation alot.
Some of my videos was also taken down by YouTube, which didn't make things easier. Then I needed to prioritize my studies. Now I have a **Bachelor of Science in Audiology** and things are better in many ways. Since my last post I moved away from proprietary software and now I make all my content with free and open source software (FOSS). I haven't recorded an a cappella cover since I used Reaper, which mean I didn't finish my third part in the series 'The Making of an A Cappella Cover' here on the platform, but maybe that could change with a FOSS-alternative... **:-)**

Since YouTube makes it harder for artist to upload musical content I started a new project: **Tabletop RPGs** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdPkuk8NHps I didn't upload my videos here since I've decided to make them in Swedish. Studies shows (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4172089/) that we process information differently if it's in our native language. And since there's alot of information about TRPGs in other languages, but fewer in Swedish I made videos in that language. But finally I'm adding CC and english subtitles, one video at the time, so you also can enjoy my videos too! **\\(^o^)/**

I've also made back ups of my work to PeerTube, in case YouTube decides to take down both my channels and who knows ...perhaps I'll make explicit content for PeerTube in the future (for now, YouTube has the advantage of that it's easier to share, 'cause it's so popular).

Pew... that was much more information than I expected. Maybe this is the last time I'll post anything on Steemit. It depends if and what kind of interaction I get from you guys. If you would like to follow my work I'm on Mastodon/Peertube now and if you would like to support me (**your support is important!**) give this post a thumbs up. Thanks for your time and have a fantastic day!

Retail, customer service and psionic blasts.

I remember seeing Dune in the cinema in ’84. And then I sat down and read the book, and then I read all the other books. You can see how Dune influenced a whole slew of fantasy and science fiction – its codes and its combats. Ritual combat is an important part of nerd culture, as is the idea that you have to let go of your ego – your fear of loss – in order to master it.

I was well into D&D by then.

But there were parts of the D&D rules that never really came up in everyday play. Like the psionic system.

Here was a ritualised combat system where you chose attacks and defences based upon what you thought your opponent might do. Your goal was to protect your own psionic strength and whittle away your opponents.

Retailers have their own form of ritualised combat.

It’s called customer service.

If you have ever complained about a thing you’ll know it takes a certain degree of ego. You have to decide whether it is worth your time and your ego investment to pursue a thing. Your soup may be lukewarm, but do you really care enough to complain? And then there is a question of how you complain.

Just as in D&D there are psionic attacks and defences, so there are in customer service.

You get more with honey than with vinegar as my mother used to say. But then companies got wise to that. That’s why the Karen’s of this world exist – they have already mentally gone through a checklist in their mind of low key responses which got them nothing, so they power in with a fully fledged ‘can I speak to the manager?’ psionic blast.

They unleash the full force of their ego on some hapless assistant, because they know they can’t defend against it and they have no power to action a reasonable request.

Langdows Cay - A 5e RPG Tabletop Location
Langdows Cay is a small island far in the waters of The Wasteful Waves. A few hundred years ago the island was used as a prison and the prisoners were left on the island with no food or supplies. Those that survived began to make a life on the island and centuries later an entire town rests there. However, this island is virtually untouched by the outside world. They know nothing of the mainland since their ancestors risked death if they tried to leave the island. In order to protect their families, the original "settlers" taught their offspring that anyone outside of the island was evil and must be avoided.

![Langdows Cay Island.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSF4SouFjAgXe4ZoJruFJiugaszRZoUakG4Yc6fjXW1JV/Langdows%20Cay%20Island.png)

The island inhabitants take turns patrolling the island. Everyone is assigned to a specific area so that there is someone watching the sea from all sides of the island.

Smoke braziers are strategically placed around the island so that everyone can be alerted to danger.
If a smoke brazier is lit, it alerts all other braziers to be lit as well. The islanders know that this means they must immediately get into their homes and into their hiding places to avoid contact with outsiders.

The Sheriff of Langdows Cay is Pikar Appleblossom, a very high strung halfling male. He is in charge of keeping the peace among the islanders.

Inn/Tavern - The Silent Rooster
Ran by a 156 year old male rock gnome named Histix Gamop Calser Dorrug.
- He is bald.
- He is blind in his left eye.
- He is 4'2" tall.
- Blind in his left eye.
- Rarely speaks.
- Keeps a very precise journal.
- Considers everyone else to be an idiot.
- He has always written with a piece of coal and has never seen a pen so they astound him.

The tavern is a plaster two-story building, with large windows and a pillared curved-roof entryway. It contains stuffed roosters hanging from the ceiling and cured meats and cheeses on shelves behind the bar.

Histix's Plea: Local girls have been going missing from the tavern and no one can find them. There have been three gone missing so far. Everyone is starting to think he has something to do with it, but he has no idea what is happening. Find the girls and he will accommodate you for free (food, drink, rooms) forever.

Hiding Place: The Silent Rooster has a second basement that is set up for residents and staff to hide out in if the security braziers are lit. The entrance to it can be found by pulling on a specific rooster that is hanging from the ceiling. A hatch in front of the fireplace will open.

Blacksmith - The Thorny Rose
Rose Avery is the island blacksmith. She is a human woman that is about 35 years old.
- She has long straight auburn hair that she keeps in a braid down her back at all times.
- She has brown eyes.
- One of her eyebrows is missing and the skin there has a severe burn scar.
- She has an even temper and cannot be coaxed into anger or intimidated.
- She is courageous to a fault and often tries to avoid hiding when the braziers are lit so that she can protect the islanders if necessary.

Rose's Rumor: Everyone in town is buying daggers from her because there is a rumor going around that a shark with legs was walking the southern beaches on the other side of the grove.

Hiding Place: The entire building is made of stone and fortified with metal bars. When a lever is pushed the windows close and bars drop down locking into the windowsills. The large anvils in the center of the building move on tracks and place themselves behind the large stone doors making them impossible to open from the outside. It becomes a impregnable fortress and islanders will try to make it there before the building is locked down because it is the most secure location on the island.

General Store - Father's Market
A tiefling named Confidence runs Father's Market. He is not a father nor does he ever want to be a father. His father named the market and that's how everyone knows it so he isn't changing the name.
- Confidence has a tribal tattoo across his chest.
- He is a bit of a coward which everyone suspects is the real reason he won't rename the general store since his father died. He is afraid of his mother.
- He is slightly paranoid and startles easily. He is always looking around like he is afraid of someone or something.
- He is pretty sure that he is doing a terrible job with the market and he is petty sure that it is going to go bankrupt because of him.
- Confidence will change the subject if asked how he acquired the mainland items in his market.

Confidence Makes a Request: The Freeless family ordered some supplies and he needs to bring them over there, but his mother is going to get angry if he leaves the store. She says that customers take advantage of him too much and he needs to put his foot down and make them come into the market to get their supplies. Confidence was wondering if maybe you would deliver the supplies for him?

Hiding Place: The counter in the market looks like a solid log that has been shaped into a beautiful counter top. However, the log i hollow and there is an hidden door to climb into it and wait until the coast is clear.

Alchemist - Cordial Elixir
Ushat Battlefury is a 15 year old female orc alchemist.
- She has rough pockmarked green skin and is 6'1" tall.
- She giggles a lot and can be a tad clumsy.
- She isn't a trained alchemist, but she read about them in books that are on the island and decided that's what she wanted to do. So she is figuring it out as she goes.
- Ushat gets bored easily and cannot keep a secret.

Ushat Needs Help: She could use some help gathering ingredients for some of the potions she wants to make. She has a list from a book, but she doesn't know what some of them are to be able to find them. She doesn't even know if they are all available n the island.

Hiding Place: Ushat's shop is just an old abandoned house that she took over and fixed up as best she could. It's still a bit ramshackle so the original hiding place which was a secret room with a false wall is now a potions room and the false wall is completely gone. She is just a couple houses down from the blacksmith shop so she does her best to make it over there before the building is secured. She hasn't gotten locked out yet.

Fish Market - Goggle Eye's
Eris Birdiir is a 215 year old female high elf fisherwoman.
- She is referred to as Goggle Eye by the islanders because she likes to eat the fish eyes while fishing. No one else eats them and she hates for anything to go to waste.
- She has short wavy gray hair. Her eyes are a brilliant green color and her skin looks golden from all of the sun she gets while fishing.
- Eris is 6'5" tall and her long and slender frame is more imposing than one might think.
- She never smiles and if she can grunt instead o using words to communicate that is what she is going to do.
- She thinks hiding from outsiders is stupid and does it begrudgingly.

Eris Asks a Favor: She wants you to convince the islanders that hiding from the locals is dumb and that it is no longer necessary. She can't give you reasons why she thinks it is safe enough to stop hiding, she just knows she really hates hiding.

Hiding Place: Eris has a secret drawer that pulls out under the fish gutting table. She can fit into it, although it is sort of coffin like and makes her nervous, and then slides the drawer closed with herself inside. She usually just falls asleep in there and one of the island children comes and knocks on the table to let her know it is safe to come out.

Cranberry Acres
This farm is owned by the Amedee family. They have a special flooding system set up using the salt water from the sea to help harvest their cranberries.
- Human family that consists of a husband, wife, and two children. They employ islanders to help with the farm.
- Mrs. Amedee is upset because there is an order for six crates of cranberries and one of the crates is now missing. An entire crate of cranberries just disappeared and the order has to be delivered by tomorrow at sunset.

Silver Tree Farm
This farm is owned by the Varil family. They use the ocean to water their fruit trees and it has made the apples turn silver. No one knows how the trees survive the salt water or why it turns the apples silver. They are delicious in pies though.
- Elven family that is composed of an adult brother and sister. They have been on the island for hundreds of years and remember when it was a place for prisoners.
- They will not talk about the crime that got them sent to the island.

Freeless House
Halfling family that seems to live quite well. None of them seem to work though....and no one knows where their coin comes from.

Fayanna House
Retired human fighter. He washed up on shore one day half dead and the islanders, while very cautious, could not stand by and watch him die. They nursed him back to health and he has been a part of their community ever since. He helped to set up the brazier system to give the islanders more time to hide.

Truth House
Tiefling woman that hangs out the window of her home yelling at anyone that passes by about "the offerings". She yells that they will all be sorry one day and they best not come crying to her when all hell breaks loose.

Ellisar House
Elven man who's daughter went missing. He doesn't seem too worried about her.

Appleblossom Manor
Home of the sheriff. His halfling wife is a bit uppity due to his position. Ok, so she is a lot uppity.

Gave these away
We've finally reached a place in our lives where we own enough dice, so I gave these to some kids just starting their D&D journey.
