Going through my analogue photography archive. Part I.
Every once in a while for professional reasons and other times to tidy up and update, I have to go through my digitized archive of analogue photographs, the vast majority of which are slides, of which I can have about 80,000 in the archives at a guess, and of these, scanned, there is only a tiny fraction.

The first thing I come across are the folders organised in alphabetical order and the first one is a work done in Alaska. When I visited that state separate from the rest of the USA, apart from my work for a travel publishing house, I visited a small town in the centre of the state called Talkeetna. The reason for going to a tiny town in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness was that the director and the scriptwriter of a famous TV series called the Northern Lights were living there for three months to get inspiration from the real characters and write the script for the series. I can only say one thing, reality far outweighs fiction, and Talkeetna is proof of that. Apart from being the centre of all the activities in Denali National Park, it is a strange place. There is a train station where no train ever stops, the hairdresser cuts hair in the street when the weather permits, people walk down the street with guns and other things that would make this entry endless, but the most surreal thing is that they made a cat the honorary mayor.

At the end, if you're only there for two days, it's all fun, but I can't imagine having to spend the harsh winter surrounded by characters, each one crazier than the next.

Here is a small sample of the scans I made of the original slides.

CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #125 | London aerial
Back in the day photographers used a thing called film to record images, then the process went through the lab to develop either slides or negatives. It was rare that at the end we would see our photographs on a screen, the normal was to see them printed on paper.

The image I am submitting to the 'cityscape photography' contest is an aerial view of London's financial district, aka The City, and was taken from a helicopter using Fujifilm Provia 100 slide film in a gem of a camera, the Hasselblad X-Pan, a panoramic format camera, with a 45mm lens.

Unless stated otherwise, all the pictures and the words are mine.

The white cathedral in Helsinki, Finland
I was walking in the city centre of Helsinki with my film camera and I could not resist pointing it towards the symbol of the city - the white cathedral. In front of it, you can see the statue of Emperor Alexander II. I used a red filter to darken the sky.

Shooting on film
I own several film cameras, and this is one of them. A relatively common model, the Asahi Spotmatic ended up at home almost by accident when I bought a vintage lens. I was not looking for a body, given that I was only using digital cameras. One beautiful day I realised that I wanted to try how photography was done back in the old days. At first, I thought it would be just a single attempt, maybe just one roll, and that will be it... Well, several years and some 100 rolls later, I can say that it is here to stay.

Light painting turned out to be a nice way to show the beauty of this camera.

Timeless - when time has long ago stopped existing
I love film photography. It is a true test of a photographer's skills. I was visiting a museum and saw this nice clock inside an old tram. Time has stopped long ago. No point measuring it anymore.

Olympus XA first impressions - Shooting 35mm film in Berlin

I stumbled across an Olympus XA in Berlin and knew I HAD to buy one because that sh*t was so cute.

As a lot of you know, point and shoot cameras are getting trendy as f**k, so I wanted to see what the hype is all about. Managed to pick this one up cheap!

This is not really an Olympus XA review, but more of a first look at it as a noob.

Please enjoy this video about a noob using a point and shoot camera for the first time.

Photos - Florida - Early 1970s (24)

See the previous post in this series here. Feel free to skip the quoted intro text if you have read it before.

I had the opportunity to pick up a huge batch of slides recently. These are pictures spanning from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s (maybe earlier and/or later but these are what I have sampled so far). These came to me second hand but the original source was a combination of estate sales and Goodwill. There are several thousand...maybe as many as 10,000. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

Apparently, getting your pictures processed as slides used to be a fairly common thing but it was a phenomenon I missed out on. Though my family used some obscure technologies (disc film comes to mind), we always had regular prints. Having said that, my Grandfather had a few dozen slides (circa late 1950s) that I acquired after he died. That along with some negatives is what prompted me to buy a somewhat decent flatbed scanner that could handle slides and negatives (an Epson V600). That was the most money I was willing to spend on one anyway. It can scan up to four slides at a time with various post-processing options and does a decent enough job. The scanner has been mostly idle since finishing that task but now there is plenty for it to do.

Like most of the previous sets so far, these were all taken in Florida somewhere but I do not know exactly where. The last few sets, including this one, have been at someones mobile home. It appears to be next to some water (maybe a bayou) as there are docks and boats in these pics as well. Click on the link below to also see versions processed with color restoration and Digital ICE which is a hardware based dust and scratch remover, a feature of the Epson V600 scanner I am using. There are also versions processed with the simpler dust removal option along with color restoration.

Florida - Early 1970s (19)

Click on the link below to also see versions processed with color restoration and Digital ICE which is a hardware based dust and scratch remover, a feature of the Epson V600 scanner I am using.

Film Photography by me (4th roll)
Hello dear Steemians, I am going to share my 4th roll of film which is the latest one. It turned very, very nice. The film itself was York Photo Center 400 Colour which in reality is Ferraniacolor film. Even though it was an expired film, the results were great. I shot it at ISO 100. The camera and lens used were Minolta Maxxum 7000i with 50mm f1.7 AF. I was with my wife and daughter at Mushtaidi Park, Tbilisi.

So, let's enjoy the pictures

Film Photography by me (3rd roll)
Hello dear Steemians, I still want to share with you all my film and digital photography with you because it is my passion. I also want to encourage myself to go out and shoot even more. Moreover, it can easily be inspiration for anyone. When I see other people's work, I also get inspired to do that. Anyway, sharing my own work can be twice more inspiring and encouraging for me to shoot again.

This 3rd roll which I shot ended up being a little bit unwanted surprise. The issue was that the roll was already mostly exposed that didn't look in the first place. It was in the point and shoot camera and the number of frames it showed was 7. I thought there were just 6 shots exposed and I continued to shoot in another slr camera. So, I tried to capture photographs with 3 different cameras on this roll and I got mostly double exposures, weird colours and just few were good. I converted them in black and white because colours were so off. So, I am going to share with you few of the pictures.

Film used
Expired York Photo Center 400 Colour (Ferrania)

Cameras
Samsung Maxima Zoom XL70
Canon EOS Elan II
Minolta Maxxum 7000

Film Photography by me
I love photography in general but there is the aesthetic of the film photos that make so many people wondered. So am I and I enjoy shooting with film. Previously, I posted my first roll of film that I captured. Now, it is time for my second roll. It was expired Kodak Max 400 which was expired in 2004. Expired film loses sensitivity to light (one stop every ten years), adds more grain and maybe even light leaks. It depends on the film, storage conditions and so on. Anyway, there is still a good chance to get decent images if you expose properly. Expired film is cheaper too. So, lets see the photos which were captured by Minolta Maxxum 7000 with Minolta AF 50mm f1.7 lens. That lens creates really wonderful images.

The Devil is in the Details (XPILAR’s B&W Photo Contest, Week 071)

> The Devil is in the Details

This imposing Art Nouveau stained glass piece caught my attention during a photoshoot at ChΓ’teau Charles. Intended (I presume) to be a vase of fruits and flowers (which is quite clear in colours), shooting the glass partition in black and white revealed a whole different story. Coincidence?

This glass wall partition is located between the lobby and the main staircase of ChΓ’teau Charles, a French castle nestled between the hills of Pepinster, a small town of Southern Belgium.
