Sleep Paralysis

First, let me start by saying that I am currently 46 years old. I was born in 1971. This was well before the internet and it made understanding anything more scientific next to impossible. Unless, of course, the information you were looking for was included in a volume of Britannica's encyclopedias or you had access to a well stocked public library in which you could access medical text books.

The first time I remember having a sleep paralysis experience was when I was 12 years old.

If you're not familiar with sleep paralysis, apparently it is a curious neurological process whereby the physical body becomes unable to move voluntarily. This can occur just as someone is about to fall asleep or just as they are waking up. When it occurs the person who is experiencing the phenomenon will be able to see and hear what's happening around them but they will not be able to move their body at all or, very well. They also won't be able to talk beyond a mere whisper.

Most people who experience these episodes report being aware of "a presence" in the room with them. The presence is never comforting. In fact, it is exactly the opposite and feels like you are being threatened or attacked because you are unable to move while the experience is occurring. An extreme sense of terror is often described.

Statistically, 60% of the general population will report experiencing some form of sleep paralysis during their lifetime, according to neurological medical studies. Scientists think this phenomenon has its roots in the temporoparietal cortex of the brain and it is linked to both "out of body" and "near death" experiences.

It is suggested that perhaps, neural wiring gets crossed in the brain, or goes a bit haywire.

My first episode involved a visit from 3 small grey creatures just as I was waking up one morning and about to get out of bed. I distinctly remember hearing multiple foot steps coming down the hall towards the room I was in, then not being able to move, but I could still see and hear. They stood at the foot of my bed, communicating amoungst themselves. It seemed like an eternity to me because I couldn't move my body and when I tried to scream for help, the only thing I could manage to generate was a whisper at best. Then they left and my ability to move returned. I immediately got up and got dresses. Later that morning, I told my father what happened. He told me not to be afraid, that my brain had just woken up before my body had.

Through my adolescence, I continued to have similar episodes. I always heard the footsteps coming towards me and it became an early warning sign that I was going to have a sleep paralysis experience.

The most terrifying episode that occurred happened when I was 18.

This experience was different in that I was alone in the house and I wasn't visited by small creatures or entities. This time it was one creature that was over six feet tall and I knew it wasn't human.

It physically restrained me, in the bed I was lying in, came around to my head and shoulder, bent down close to my face and laughed very sadistically.

To say I was terrified was an understatement. In my head, (because I was unable to scream or talk) I told "it" that it wasn't welcome and demanded that it leave me alone.

It left and I immediately got dressed and started cleaning my house. I was really shaken-up by this particular experience and I thought that occupying my mind with housework would help to take my mind off of what had just happened. I tried to remind myself that this was my brain, but I couldn't shake the fear that I was feeling.

I decided to do a load of laundry simultaneously among the other chores, that I was doing. I washed a load and then threw that load in the dryer while I was vacuuming and cleaning the kitchen. When the dryer had stopped after about an hour, I took the clothes directly out of the dryer in my arms and carried the full load to my bed to start folding it. I immediately realized that some of the clothes weren't quite dry, so I scooped them back up off my bed and put them back in the dryer for another 20 minutes or so.

After the dryer stopped for the second time, I did the exact same thing and took the clothes back to the surface of my bed so that I could fold them and put them in my dresser.

It was then, that I looked up and saw a "sock" completely evenly draped over the current rod above the window over the head of my bed.

"That's odd" I thought. "How would a sock end up completely balanced and draped over top of my curtain rod?"

I had to stand on the top of my bed to retrieve it, because I couldn't reach it.

A wave of fear instantly swept over me. The sock was still wet. It was one that I had just washed but it hadn't made it into the dryer for round two of drying. Its "dried" mate was lying on top of my bed, waiting to be paired and folded.

I had to leave my house because I didn't feel safe.

That night, I made an appointment with one of the elders at my childhood church. I had grown up with this congregation and thought surely they could offer some guidance.

Once I had re-counted this story, the response I received from the church representative was a question as to whether I had been drinking and was drunk. "Yeah, I thought, I routinely get up at 5:00 am, to get plastered so that I can go back to bed and hallucinate." That was the end of my relationship with organized religion.

The only entity that has the right to judge you, is you, yourself.

It took me twenty more years to learn that.

I continue to this day to experience bouts of sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming and out of body experiences. I am also an empath and in the last 12 years have realized that I now have very strong clairaudiance skills. I have used this skill to help others come to terms with and reconcile unresolved issues.

On a personal note, I no longer fear these episodes and have learned to be very clear about what I will tolerate and what I won't.

The best piece of advice I can give anyone who may be experiencing sleep paralysis is to do your best not to focus on the fear of not being able to move, but instead to focus on breathing rhythmically or sing your favourite song in your head while it's happening.

(It's great to finally be able to easily access information about the science of this, now that studies are readily made available through the internet.)

I know that this is a real "stretch of the mind" for many and my story is hard to believe.

The choice to believe or not is up to each person, individually.

I can tell you (from my own experiences) that the light at the end of the tunnel does exist. To make the leap into another reality when the time presents, just follow the light that will be apparent to you at the end of the tunnel.

My motivation for sharing this information, is to help others.

I will do my best to respond to your comments and I invite you to follow me on my journey.

maricles story
I must have been 10 years old when a local optician came to our school to give us a free eye examination. I was called up and after examining me, he informed me that I have only 30% vision and he was concern that I might have keratoconus. He suggested that I go see an Ophthalmologist (an eye surgeon or specialist).
That evening I gave my parents the letter I was given from the school. My parents didn’t seemed concern. Till this day I don’t know why. Two years passed, but wasn’t that the worse days of my live. Children can be monsters. I was called many things and none of my friend would play with me. I used to frequent the principal’s office because; my books were never up to date. This was because I was unable to copy from the chalk board. This combination was ‘deadly’.
Eventually, my parent came to realize and they finally made an appointment with the Ophthalmologist, DR Krouse. He did a full examination and confirmed I had a hereditary condition called Keratoconus. Looking through the family, there was nobody that ever had eye problems. He feather explained keratoconus simple means a cone-shaped cornea, that causes the clear layer of the eye to bulge forward just like a cone. The cornea is the focal layer of the eye and this cone shaping blurs ones vision. If unattended to,it will frost up the cornea and total vision can be lost.
At the time we had 2 options and 1 so called solution.
1. I could wear hard contact lenses that will improve my vision and it would prevent the cornea deteriorating feather.
2. I needed to have a cornea graft (cornea transplant) done
Bought these options were not possible as my age at that time would not warrant it. Technology was against me. So I was forced to opt for the so ‘called solution’ of wearing spectacles. At first this was great as my vision improved from 30% TO 50-55%. I was ontop of the world. Sooner or later I would realize that this was a makeup solution.
By the time I reach 14 year I needed better solution. Finally at the age of 16 years I was fitted with contact lenses. This was the best thing ever. My vision improves to almost to 85%. Once again this was a temporary. It lasted much longer the spectacles.
The lenses became unbearable to wear as the cornea deteriorated. I needed the cornea graft and I was placed onto a waiting list. Four months later I had the graft done to my right eye.
The cornea rejected. I was at the Ophthalmologist rooms daily. Dr Krouse tried all he could. He during one appointment decided to inject steroid into my eye. Imagine a needle coming for your eye and piecing the eye .................................. I operation needed to be redone with a new cornea. Changes where staked against me. All thanks to the Almighty this time I had no problem.
However, the left eye needed to be done. All went well .Both my eyes healed .I do still need to wear contact lenses, its lots more comfortable.
Most people have an opportunity to see a miracle every now and then .I live a miracle ever time I open my eyes.

The Old Dog Tells a Tail: My Miracle Story Composition! Finding A Treasure Inside The Walls!

Was There A Treasure Hidden Behind The Walls of That Old House?

This account was written in order to enter the contest being run by @sarahewaring asking for a True Miracle Story

The purchase of this old home was the beginning of an adventure!

Back in 1988 when I was young and beautiful my wife and I bought an old fixer upper in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The house, which was built in the early 1900’s, was crooked, creaky and had rotten wood in many areas. It lay on what was once farmland and gave the appearance of having been built by the farmer himself from whatever materials he could find. In fact we would later find out that some of the walls had been constructed partially with the use of old grape crates!

Many of the walls were covered in multiple layers of old wallpaper that had, in some cases been painted over. All of the fixtures needed to be replaced, two kitchens and two bathrooms would have to be torn out and some new windows put in. It sounds daunting, doesn't it?

Back in the days when the Old Dog would better be described as the Young Puppy! What a mess!

Would A Surprise Find Make It All Worth It?

We embarked on what would be an all consuming five year renovation project. A large portion of the work was spent on tearing down walls, large portions of ceilings and removing old cabinets.

We worked on it so often and so much that I would constantly find myself dreaming about doing the work. In my dreams, while tearing down a wall, I would find a secret passageway that would lead into a before unknown huge area of the house. I can remember the thrill and elation that I felt each time I dreamed that dream. Of course I would then wake up to the reality of a scrap heap of a house in a state of disrepair and chaos. What a let down that was but there was always the hope of a discovery!

During the tearing down process we found all types of strange objects and materials imbedded into this old “shack”. Of course, in my fantasy world I kept hoping that I’d find some stashed money, jewels or precious metals hidden inside a wall.

Perhaps this fantasy of finding a treasure was fuelled by the memory of what happened to me as a boy when doing a similar project in my parent's home. My dad was putting up some panelling in the stairwell and while tearing off an old section of drywall we found, hidden inside, a pump action bb rifle! That was a great treasure to a lad of about ten!

Welcome to my nightmare!

We Found Many Strange Things Inside Those Old Walls!

Once while tearing down a section of wall at our house my wife and I found hidden inside several 50 year old beer and pop bottles and believe it or not the windshield of a sports car, an old MG midget! What it was doing there was anyone’s guess!

We found the windshield of an old MG Midget in the wall but there was a better treasure to come? Picture pixabay.com

My wife and I continued tirelessly on our own home. Finally the day had arrived when a real treasure would be found. I was ripping off a section of ceiling near the bathroom and once it was removed I found an opening. My heart pounded as I reached inside to feel around. My fingers groped what felt like a stack of papers! What were they? Perhaps stock certificates or even a wad of money?

Had The Time To Find A Real Treasure Finally Arrived?

I grabbed the object of my desire and pulled my treasure down toward me. As it emerged from the hole I could see that it was a very old and yellowed newspaper. Just as I drew it to my chest the whole paper disintegrated and I was left with only a tiny single piece of the paper in my hand!

I looked down and my eyes fell upon my own last name written there on this small scrap. Upon further examination it was the announcement of the sale of a home in Toronto Ontario by my long dead grandfather to another man way back in 1921! He had died in 1940 a full 19 years before I was even born.

This Really Was Miraculous!

It was a strange and almost eerie experience. I didn’t find gold, jewels or money that day but I was touched by an amazing coincidence that seemed like a miracle to me!

I hope that you enjoyed my "Miracle Story".

Until next time,

In search of my own spirit
It all started when my mom was going full spiritual and left her man and kids, too live at a free farm. The farm was signed up for demolishing so she didn't had a long time there. Me around the age of 25 wandering what this all is and specially why all these chooses.

So i started to read about chakras and all the spiritual stuff, youtube and lots of hours went in it. still i didn't really understand what it was. oke i get the energy, i can feel that, of nature and people specially with animals. still it didn't explain.

Then on a festival, i was about 29 then, and yes still partying. i meet this woman with red short hair and i could feel her energy very strong. Dont really know how it all happened but i just went too her gave her a few grapes, yes they work perfect on festivals for girls, and ask her to have diner with me tomorrow. She said yes!

i found out she was 12 years older and was super mega spiritual, at first a bit scary. she started talking about my neighbor who just did a few days ago, and she lived in a other city no way she could know. so i ask how?

very easy she explained: life does not end after death, cause he is here standing with us.
she began to tell me about all the death people that are waiting for me and showed me, a way to relive the past of other lives.

This all was amazing to experience, but still i could do it alone without her help. she kinda connected me with the big grid.
in time we lost contact and my search continued.

as of this part of my story is going to be continued.![IMG_1121.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfUN4HQiJewrkV7uVMmT9yDqcFpj5HqbZPLmkoTsUixKR/IMG_1121.JPG)
Thank you all for the time,

follow me to get the next part (when its done) about the rest of my journey

Miracle stories (competition)

Many people hesitate to share these stories due to being judged. I believe that everyone has their journey in life and along with it comes trials, joys and sometimes miracles. Some may call it luck. I call it doing good to others and it comes back to you.

This is my true story which happened two years ago. My dad had just started a new ladies and gent clothing business. It was in the City center, where most of the commuters would pass.

Being a new business, my dad could not hire employees. I would have to help every day after school. Being in the City center was very exciting, seeing different faces every day and meeting new people. The best part was that I was getting paid.

My mum also helped my dad and put in some hours. She had her own designing business to take care of.

One afternoon, my mum could not come to the business, she had an appointment with one of her clients. It was just me and my dad. Towards the late afternoon, the city would quiet down and there would be less people passing by. I was standing behind my dad, catching up on some homework, when two men walked into the shop. The one had on a black leather jacket and did not have any hair on his head. He was very large in size. The other guy had on a brown jersey and was small and short in size. I could never forget their faces.

They did not say a word. They walked straight up to my dad and pointed a firearm at his chest, at close range. The gun did not go off and he began to struggle with the firearm. My dad started running, pulling me. I was in shock. All I could remember was the large man pointing a firearm at my dad and struggling with the trigger, and the smaller one putting his finger on his lips and showing me to be quiet.

These two guys ran off with my laptop. It was only my laptop and not my dad’s life. I write this with tears in my eyes, because the very next day a few doors away, the same incident happened and the young man was not as lucky as my dad. He was only twenty years old. He too, was just helping his dad.

At that moment, life could’ve changed dramatically, through some miracle the firearm did not go off. The first love of my life, my dad, could have been taken right in front of me. My dad got saved and was given a second chance in life.

I have learned to appreciate my dad and all the people around me. Miracles do happen but not every day and when they do, count your blessings and be grateful.
