Beware of the Crazy Squirrels! A love story, between two young lovers in the park and a crazed squirrel...
Squirrels may seem cute and cuddly, but they are dangerous. They also love our nicest parks. This is the story of my buddy Tommy who took his fiance to the park on a romantic walk...

![IMG_6101.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeP3psYCZA9ZhJRWUd1mKz1f54qEGvh4Qj5oG9AmzZ9kA/IMG_6101.JPG)

Tommy and his fiance were have a wonderful walk in the park, when suddenly Tommy was greeted by a friendly squirrel. Notice how happy Tommy is now:
![IMG_6102.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmW5q8kyFJvcQyrryZ82SDceCArn2eJueqc6gmcSX3Wq2F/IMG_6102.JPG)

Things quickly escalated, the squirrel went nuts! It ran up Tommy's leg! Tommy had to grab him. Look, Tommy is no longer on a happy date:

![IMG_6103.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaqdoacrifHXxuWr7fiegfJnuiEKA2GzrWMpeitwGmhj3/IMG_6103.JPG)

Squirrels are very dangerous! The date ended with a trip to the hospital with significant work up:

![IMG_6100.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfNAErF1VrKnLusERao9XwGmGm9L6JqKkUsgHTftJ6n2A/IMG_6100.JPG)

Despite his grisly wound, Tommy survived, but was sick for a about a month. His fiance and him are still in love and getting married in the summer of 2018. She still laughs even though it was a serious bite. Be careful with any wild animal. Take care and be safe!

Encouragement for this blog came from @papa-pepper. I hope you all can be careful if you run into a friendly squirrel in the park, squirrels are not friendly, they just pretend they are!

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 57 - EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL
https://i.imgur.com/FEinCCB.jpg

##
Yes, the #wild-man is friends with furry creatures too!

-------------
While I may be "friends" with these guys and even hold a wild one, they are nothing to mess with can cause serious injury if they choose to bite you. What you see me do is just that, *me doing something.* There is no need to ever mimic my antics or try to interact with wild animals in these ways.

https://i.imgur.com/rhBUqEk.jpg

We caught this young Eastern Gray Squirrel today in an area that it shouldn't be, so we decided to relocate it away from the building where we found it. It is now safe in the wild, but we paused to make this video quick before releasing it.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_gray_squirrel).

THE WILD-MAN’S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES – EPISODE 56 – SEA SLUG
https://i.imgur.com/DMqQ0YC.jpg

##
If you're looking for a marine gastropod that knows how to have fun, look no further!

-------------

There are a large variety of different types of Sea Slugs out in the ocean, and we finally found our first species on our last trip to South Padre Island in Texas. We actually found over ten of these, and even had a few ink on us.

These are actually a type of saltwater snail that has no shell. While they can slide across underwater rocks like a slug on land does, they can also swim through the water in a way that looks like they are flying, almost like an underwater butterfly. Here is a short video that I shot of one swimming.

https://youtu.be/9LzeDlKfQj4

It was great to finally encounter such a creature in the wild. Seeing things like this make me wish that we lived closer to the ocean, but at least we can still appreciate it when we get the chance. I try make my videos a little shorter when they are underwater creatures, but I hope that you still enjoy it.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_slug).

Biawak Air ( Varanus salvator )
![image](https://img.esteem.ws/kplb2oppty.jpg)
## SELAMAT MALAM SAHABAT STEEMIANS !!!

![image](https://img.esteem.ws/j9g765wbug.jpg)

>#### JENIS REPTIL

![image](https://img.esteem.ws/38qti5bv98.jpg)

>#### KEHIDUPAN BIAWAK

![image](https://img.esteem.ws/jszj9iy8k1.jpg)

Nah sahabat steemians, itulah sedikit informasi mengenai biawak air.

Dan biawak yang ada dalam foto saya kali ini juga sedang mencari mangsa/makan, biawak ini bukannya menuju dalam semak-semak melainkan sedang melewati semak-semak untuk sampai di pinggiran danau untuk mencari ikan.

The Green Vine Snake: One of Southeast Asia's Finest
Following a great post that I saw on here last week, I am spurred on to write about one of our native snakes here in Southeast Asia. @papa-pepper found a Rough Green Snake in the wild and posted great post with a video on here. https://steemit.com/wild-man/@papa-pepper/the-wild-man-s-wild-friends-video-series-episode-51-rough-green-snake He was very comfortable handling it. I would not recommend the same with our beautiful version if you come across one.
![Ahaetulla head.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQkXz8eagXZGTRZTLTYCQDNmPy585uzVJnrXARXfL5vmP/Ahaetulla%20head.jpg)

*The stunningly beautiful GreenVine Snake*

Here in Southeast Asia we have many species of snake. Some are deadly venous of course, some are constrictors and some are completely harmless. However the fear of snakes that is prevalent in many people cause them to be killed by people who fear them and cannot tell the difference.

One of my favourites here is the Green Vine Snake, whose colour is so strikingly beautiful. It is midly venomous but not aggressive and moves very slowly. They rely on camouflage as a vine in foliage for their defence. If disturbed it will expand its body to reveal black and white markings on its scales. In addition they often open their mouth in a threat display and sometimes point their head in the direction what they are perceiving as a threat.

![Green_Vine_Snake.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNo3q3CVAYbnZh4V43cpSSSvKV3yJGkBBpmSFTWAJZhBs/Green_Vine_Snake.jpg)

*Such an elegant beauty*

The Latin name is Ahaetulla nasuta which can translate as “eye plucker”. This is due to the fact that if picked up it can stare at the person’s eyes and can strike. The venom has been known to blind. Hence they are best just left alone.

I have been developing the InSeAsia website for three years. It genuinely is a labour of love. I have lived in Southeast Asia for 9 years and have no plans to ever leave.

Please follow me, up vote, comment and re-steem, and come and check me out. If ever you come to Saigon, Vietnam get in touch and we can meet up.

The Water Moccasin (*Agkistrodon piscivorus*) is a fairly common snake in the southern United Snakes. They are the only semi-aquatic pit viper in the world, and are often found near the water.

I did not meet them until we moved to Arkansas, and now we know of some places where they can readily be found. Their most common foods are frogs and fish, and they do not lay eggs but rather give *live birth* to their young. Though many are terrified of them, they will usually just try to get away or simply display their large, gaping mouth when threatened. Enjoy the video!

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agkistrodon_piscivorus).

THE WILD-MAN’S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES – EPISODE 54 – PRAYING MANTIS
https://i.imgur.com/i2685gk.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite insects!

With over 2000 species worldwide, the mantises can be a force to be reckoned with!

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/r0FJcsz.jpg

Praying Mantises are generally a tropical insect, but they can be found in temperate parts of the world as well. With their strange behavior and triangle-like head, they are peculiar indeed. In fact, they are some the most popular insects for humans to keep as pets.

Their front legs are equipped with large raptor-like spikes that they use to grasp their prey. They are ambush predator and will fit perched with their front legs bent and ready for action, which can resemble someone praying. This is where they get their name from.

https://i.imgur.com/xOESmBq.jpg

The first one we found today (we found three total, of two different species) was a excellent gray camouflage color. It was on the trunk of a tree, and blended in very well. Enjoy the video!

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 53 – SPOTTED SALAMANDER
https://i.imgur.com/xAa32PF.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite salamanders!

-------------
The Spotted Salamander (Ambystoma maculatum) is a very interesting amphibian that was once popular in the pet trade.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/Uzn41VB.jpg

After enjoying this species up in Wisconsin for years, it was nice to finally see one here in Arkansas. A special thanks to @bluerthangreen for finding it for me!

These ones are somewhat similar to the Tiger Salamander and the Blue Spotted Salamander, both of which I have already featured. The Spotted Salamander is another type of *Mole Salamander*. They can grow to about ten inches in length. Enjoy the video!

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 52 – EASTERN FENCE LIZARD
https://i.imgur.com/5Npw3cz.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite lizards!

-------------
The Eastern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus) is also known as the **Prairie Lizard** in some areas. We first met up with this species when we moved to Arkansas.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/gTEgNMW.jpg

These are a very well camouflaged lizard that can have some striking blue coloration on the throat and sides. They only grow to about eight inches in length and can be *very* fast. We often find them by log and rock piles, and other places along the forests edge.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_fence_lizard).

WILD-MAN VIDEO PROJECT - A CREATIVE SIDE PROJECT WITH AMAZING RESULTS
http://i.imgur.com/f4iE1pk.jpg

##
This is going to be a lot of fun!

-----------
As I mentioned in my [50 Wild Friends of the Wild-Man](https://steemit.com/wild-man/@papa-pepper/the-wild-man-s-wild-friends-video-series-celebration-50-animals-featured-already) post, I have been working with another steemian to make some of the wild-man things a little more interesting.

For starters, we are going to be blending some of the previous videos together into some entertaining shorts. Here is the first video, featuring five wild snakes!

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg
##
THE WILD-MAN IS FRIENDS WITH SNAKES

##

https://youtu.be/PH7o1Tz-hxk

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

##
WHO HELPED AND WHY?

##
To help with the editing of these and putting them together like this, I reached out to @beanz. My reason for this was simple. A while back, I had made a video where I shared, from my point of view, about what steemit is. Not too long after, @beanz editing that video of me rambling in front of the camera and she turned it into this masterpiece.

https://youtu.be/OPLBe7JsRx0

I was completely blown away by what @beanz was able to turn my video into. In fact, when a few of my relatives were in town visiting and asked me about steemit, I thought that it would be much better if I just played that video for them. You may want to consider doing the same, because after @beanz put it together like that, it really became an amazing "commercial" for steemit.

If you have any way to watch videos, you really should check that one out! Thanks so much @beanz!

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg
##
BETTER TOGETHER

##
Moving forward, I'll keep doing what I do, and I'll keep interacting with other steemians to create things together that we could not do on our own.

One excellent example is that my fiction story [Love, Like His](https://steemit.com/fiction/@papa-pepper/love-like-his-chapter-31-madman-vs-madman-an-original-story-by-papa-pepper) is not only being turned [into an audiobook](https://steemit.com/fiction/@papa-pepper/love-like-his-an-audiobook-collaboration-verbal-d-and-papa-pepper-chapter-twenty-five) with the help of @verbal-d, but it is also [now being made available in the Portuguese language](https://steemit.com/fiction/@andyluy/love-like-his-capitulo-1-uma-historia-original-por-papa-pepper) thanks to @andyluy, @raphavongal, & @lpessin. How cool is that?

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 51 – ROUGH GREEN SNAKE
http://i.imgur.com/6woq6fa.jpg

##
This is the first Rough Green Snake I've seen in the wild!

-------------
The Rough Green Snake (Opheodrys aestivus) is an amazingly slender arboreal snake that inhabits the southeastern United States and parts of Mexico.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/5BYJ6k9.jpg

After growing up in an area where the Smooth Green Snake lived, it was so cool to see one of these in the wild. Rough Green Snakes are a nonvenomous snake that feeds primarily on insects and can grow almost four feet long. Enjoy the video!

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opheodrys_aestivus).

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES CELEBRATION - 50 ANIMALS FEATURED ALREADY!
http://i.imgur.com/a3JrrnW.jpg

##
It's hard to believe that all of this has happened in the last three months!

----
A few months back I thought that it might be a good idea to begin sharing short educational and informational videos about some of the wild animals that I encounter. Since @thelivingpoet had mentioned something along those lines, I knew that there was at least some interest out there.

When I started this project, my goal was simple: make short interesting videos to share my passion about the creatures that share this planet with us and hope to spark some interest in others as well. I think that it has been a success so far. As I move forward, I plan on getting some video editing software and producing some longer videos featuring different creatures, but for now I will be teaming up with some other steemians as a way to collaborate and build relationships in this community. Stay tuned for the first release from that project in the near future.

For now, I have sorted through my crazy blog history to present you with all of the first 50 #wild-man videos, arranged in chronological order for your viewing pleasure! Links to the original posts have also been provided.

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 50 – EASTERN HOGNOSE SNAKE
http://i.imgur.com/Vped6u7.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite snakes!

-------------
The Eastern Hognose Snake (*Heterodon platirhinos*) is one amazing snake. I have always loved these guys and we were blessed enough to find one at the home of @grandpa-pepper while we were up in Wisconsin.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/EidIoWF.jpg

One of my favorite defense mechanisms of the Eastern Hognose Snake is that they can spread their “hood” much like a Cobra does. Compare the photo above to the one below to see what I mean.

http://i.imgur.com/TIN8EcM.jpg

###
As a bonus illustration of this defense mechanism, check out this video I made the other year of a larger Hognose Snake up in Wisconsin.

###
HOGNOSE?

##
http://i.imgur.com/pc7JJFU.jpg

The name “hognose” comes from the upturned nose that these creatures have. They use it to dig in sandy soil, and it definitely gives them a much different look than that of many other snakes.

http://i.imgur.com/SyDvQSO.jpg

In the photo above you can see the snake acting normal. However, just a little bit of perceived threat can make them employ another defense mechanism, playing dead.

http://i.imgur.com/eViBWEB.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/FAWzEP2.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/3ITozzr.jpg

Yeah, these snakes are *really good* at playing dead, which you may have already seen in our [previous post where “Sweet-Pepper” picked it up when we first found it.](https://steemit.com/life/@papa-pepper/did-sweet-pepper-just-kill-a-baby-snake) I’ll include a second video below of it playing dead after I include the next video in this series.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source]( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_hognose_snake).

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 49 – GREEN FROG
http://i.imgur.com/oVmTok7.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite frogs!

-------------
Green frog? Aren't there all kinds of **green frogs?** Actually, the Green Frog (*Lithobates clamitans*) is a specific species of frogs, though many frogs due happen to be green.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/qeywP8B.jpg

Though this particular species is similar in appearance to other species like the Bullfrog or Mink Frog, the Green Frog is indeed its own special frog. Commonly found in eastern Canada and the US, it is an aquatic *true frog* and plays a valuable role in the ecosystem.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from [this source]( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithobates_clamitans).

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 48 – TIGER SALAMANDER
http://i.imgur.com/STeRvi5.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite salamanders!

-------------
The Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) in the largest and most widespread salamander in North America, however, it is unlikely that you will encounter many of them.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zpCbeKm.jpg

A member of the *mole salamander family*, much of the adult life of Tiger Salamanders is spent underground in burrows. Their size and color make them a striking specimen when you actually do get the chance to see them.

A special thanks goes out to [The Ridges Sanctuary & Nature Center](http://www.ridgessanctuary.org/) in Baileys Harbor, WI for this one. While touring their sanctuary and nature center on Friday, they allowed me to remove this Tiger Salamander from its display case to use in my video. We had an amazing time both walking the sanctuary paths and touring the nature center, and I plan on featuring it in an upcoming post.

I have never seen one of these before. @papa-pepper is this one of your wild friends?
![IMG_20170826_110439.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfA9fNYu63N1JZjyJEeRaWicUZEqwD8jfCFuoW4eG8xnZ/IMG_20170826_110439.jpg)

I have never seen a butterfly or moth like this before. I am hoping @papa-pepper can tell me its name. It is probably one of his wild friends. It has been sitting on that chair for over a hour

THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 47 – RED-BELLIED SNAKE
http://i.imgur.com/JnIlic1.jpg

##
This is one of my favorite snakes!

-------------
The Red-Bellied Snake AKA **Firebelly** AKA **Northern Redbelly Snake** (*Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata*) is a beautiful little snake in the Colubridae family. Ever since I was a little boy, I have enjoyed finding these incredible creatures.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/http://i.imgur.com/uVNBbyL.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/mhQD10v.jpg

These small snakes only grow to about a foot in length, though most individuals will be smaller. As you can see in the photo above, they can vary in color from dark gray to brown, but it is their underbelly from which they receive their names.

http://i.imgur.com/HxIHKl0.jpg

Underneath, the Red-Bellied Snakes are a beautiful orange in color. Another interesting thing about this species is that they give live birth, and the babies come out of thin membranes rather than actual eggs which would have to incubate prior to hatching. Amazingly, @papa-pepper actually has some original video footage of that too!
