# Reputation level 70 Achieved!
You may interpret reputation level 70 however you like but it's definitely not easy reaching this level without powering down and recycling that Steem so BACK OFF! 😹 New Steem makes it much more difficult to do this because if you envoke the ire of a whale or the downvote brigade from excessive bid bot usage it counteracts any reputation gain. I needed about 7000 Steem in upvotes to reach this level which will take an awfully long time unless you spend a ton of money and self vote or buy upvotes. I did a combo of both, any other way requires highly skilled v/blogging or many powerful friends.
![70.png](https://files.steempeak.com/file/steempeak/crypticat/gac1lNHm-70.png)
What does reputation even mean? Unless you are a complete jerk, reputation here only goes up. People who spend more, buy upvotes and self vote earn it faster and people who don't spend earn it very slowly. I only notice in increments of 10: things start at level 40, level 50 means some commitment, 60 implies people will look twice, 70 means you have a significant history and 80 is epic. Today a reputation of 70 puts me at 760 overall reputation ranking according to https://steemitboard.com/ranking/?p=30&s=reputation&hl=crypticat Before you say who cares about one's reputation, in this day and age reputation means a lot. This is the internet after all and the blockchain never forgets. The easiest thing to do is to make decent quality posts and love everyone. I'm like a cat and cats don't love everyone, we have attitude, you have to earn our love. ## NEW STEEM New Steem means that curation and reputation are more valuable than before. It's more difficult to buy your way into this and it is easier to lose it all. Sure, early adopters and those who got in at least a few months ago had a significant advantage but such is life. I don't complain about the sky-high real estate values, thinking about what life would be like if my parents only speculated on that farmland at the edge of the city. This is life, deal with it. I am trying to figure out what my next target is, 71 Rep? Lame. 2000 followers? Sure why not, follow me, comment below and I'll upvote you, it's that easy but I don't want to buy friends. We build Steem, especially the people with at least a few k SP, with decent rep who have a significant following. It doesn't matter about quantitative figures we care about the quality of New Steem. My goals are to help spread the good word of Steem, reach 25k SP and in the meantime curate. So feel free to comment, if you interact with me, I'll take a look at your work. Most level 70 accounts are here for the long run and have a vested interest in the success of Steem. Thank you for being here!
