Making DIY and experimenting is always fun! I have recently recycled jars and gave them a nice upgrade and was surprised with a really pretty outcome. Behind those DIY projects needs a little *Science* in order to look pleasing. Now, let's see what happens when you combine Bicarbonate soda (Sodium bicarbonate) to Vinegar (acetic acid), along with water. ![20180204_173030-COLLAGE.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmStWVKHtykb48AkQMdfn3Ugn2JEG7ad2bNFGN8kRwyA57/20180204_173030-COLLAGE.jpg) ## You will need: - bicarbonate soda - vinegar (1/2 cup) - hot water - dish washing liquid (a drop) - jars (empty) ## What happens when Bicarbonate soda and Vinegar mixed together ***If you combine Bicarbonate soda and vinegar it creates reactions called *carbonic acid*, This causes reaction that results to fizzing, bubbling, popping and crackling. This chemical is not stable so gradually it turns into a *carbon dioxide*. On the other hand, carbon dioxide is a gas that does not mix with water, It is the air we uses for exhaling when we breath***. This experiment is popularly used in a classroom by pupils for science experiment and these two ingredients are commonly typical in a household. ![20180204_122155.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSZmGYrgtx6gJiGpP9BJLB88NBjxsXVG5xbWU1puSEy46/20180204_122155.jpg) When the *carbonic acid* disappears, what will remain will just be the carbon dioxide and water. Then bubbles will be visible around the experiment. This bubbles are actually a carbon dioxide that escapes from the water through bubbles. ## Sodium Acetate When all the carbon dioxide disappears, the fizzing, bubbling, crackling and popping will suddenly stops. All will be left from the basin is *water and sodium acetate*. ## The Experiment 1. Fill your basin or sink with a very hot water and soak your recycled jars. 2. Add in the dish washing liquid and Bicarbonate soda to the basin with hot water. 3. Add the vinegar, and observe the reactions how it sizzles from the water. 4. wait for 25 minutes and rinse off your jar. *The labels from the jars will be easily remove when you rinse off, It should look like these*. ![20180204_165357.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdj5xcyJEZwQAMj547ekwPbzXQRN5Ywqt898TnPhJL2Tj/20180204_165357.jpg) Dry the jars and decorate them as you want, or you can use it as it is. Do not throw your empty jars next time, Think what you can do to ***Recycle*** and how to ***Re-use*** them. It will save you money and it will help the environment. ![20180204_171708.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbGVzdRCWKF6U73GR8KntB98BK2cuyNHjEQ4GEiZzFfSA/20180204_171708.jpg) ![20180204_171956.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmStktcB8s9mCvyQ3GEnAkpgHCn9pseGFjDWeaQHHbJDcy/20180204_171956.jpg) In this project, I have used some ornament decorations and just glued in to the jar. So easy to make, the options are limitless : ) I hope this gives you an idea to your empty jars. Your feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thank you.
