@holger80 recently wrote an <a href="https://steemit.com/steemmonsters/@holger80/is-each-splinter-equally-often-used-in-battle">interesting article</a> about the frequency of use of the different Steem Monsters splinters and their respective success statistics.

His conclusion is as follows:

By the way, I find it interesting that the 'Dragon Realm' is not only the most successful, but is also used much more frequently in the higher leagues, especially the 'Champions League', than in the lower leagues.

Spontaneously I have the following thoughts:
</p>

In my opinion the above statistics do not <em>necessarily</em> mean that the 'Earth Realm' must be the weakest. That it performs relatively weakly, <em>can have</em> also other reasons: for example, I have only <em>one</em> empire full of almost completely upleveled cards, the 'Life Splinter'. In the 'Champions League', I can hardly afford to use other splinters (except the 'Dragon Realm', read below in which way) because of the very strong decks of my opponents. Whenever I am not allowed to select the 'Life Splinter' before a battle starts, I have to choose another realm. Then I often choose the 'Earth Splinter', because its cards are comparatively hard to defeat, even on non-max levels (thanks to 'Spirit Of The Forest' and 'Flesh Golem'). Of course, I usually lose anyway, but not because the 'Earth Empire' is too weak in principle, but because it's just a workaround in my case. In case others should do the same (replacing their main deck in case of doubt often by the 'Earth Splinter'), this would be an alternative explanation for the statistical results of @holger80. I suspect, however, that <em>all</em> decks of most other 'Champions League' players are consistently well equipped ...
<br>
So it <em>can</em> very well be (and probably <em>is</em> the case) that actually, the 'Earth Splinter' performs the worst statistically, but I wanted to show that pure statistics alone, without a closer look at the details, is not always sufficient to <em>evaluate</em> ones results (that's not a criticism at all of @holger80).

According to my observations (and own application), the 'Dragon Splinter' is rather a supplemental deck: the summoner 'Selenia Sky' is always chosen, if it is worthwhile, according to the given game situation, to supplement ones favorite splinter with mostly one, rarely more than one, dragon. For example, if the opponent likes to use the 'Water Realm', the well armored, thorny turtle in front, and a lot of magic power behind it, it might be useful to reinforce a life splinter with a 'Gold Dragon', which easily disenchants the turtle and also has 'Magic Reflect' (plus self-healing).
<br>
It would be interesting for the rating of the 'Dragon Realm' to filter only those matches in which someone has <em>exclusively</em> used dragons (which might occur rather rarely).

I would be particularly interested in an evaluation of those battles in which <em>both players </em>exclusively</em> used max-level cards.
</p>

Sein Fazit lautet Folgendermaßen:

Interessant finde ich übrigens, dass das 'Drachenreich' nicht nur am erfolgreichsten abschneidet, sondern in den höheren Ligen, vor allem der 'Champions League', viel häufiger zu Anwendung kommt als in den tieferen.
</p>

Spontan fällt mir dazu Folgndes ein:

<ul>
<li>
<p>
Meiner Meinung nach <em>muss</em> obige Statistik nicht unbedingt bedeuten, dass das 'Erd-Reich' am schwächsten ist. Dass es relativ schwach abschneidet, <em>könnte</em> auch andere Gründe haben: Ich selbst verfüge beispielsweise nur über ein einziges Reich voller fast komplett upgelevelter Karten, das 'Life-Splinter'. In der 'Champions Leauge' kann ich es mir aufgrund der guten Decks meiner Gegner fast nicht leisten, andere Reiche zu nutzen (außer das 'Drachenreich', dazu unten mehr). Immer dann, wenn die Auswahl des 'Life-Splinters' vor Spielbeginn nicht möglich ist, wähle ich notgedrungen ein anderes Reich. Dann fällt meine Wahl häufig auf das 'Earth-Splinter', weil dessen Karten auch auf nicht Max-Leveln vergleichsweise schwer zu besiegen sind (Dank 'Spirit Of The Forest' und 'Flesh Golem'). Natürlich verliere ich dann meistens trotzdem, aber nicht, weil das 'Erd-Reich' prinzipiell zu schwach ist, sondern weil es in meinem Fall eine Notlösung darstellt. Falls andere das ebenso handhaben sollten (ihr Hauptreich im Zweifelsfalle oft durch das 'Earth-Splinter' zu ersetzen), wäre das eine alternative Erklärung für die Ergebnisse. Ich vermute allerdings, dass <em>alle</em> Decks der meisten anderen 'Champions League'-Spieler durchgehend gut bestückt sind ...
<br>
Es <em>kann</em> also sehr gut sein (und <em>ist</em> wahrscheinlich auch so), dass tatsächlich, das 'Earth-Splinter' statistisch gesehen am schlechtesten abschneidet, ich wollte aber trotzdem aufzeigen, dass reine Statistik allein, ohne genauere Betrachtung der Details, zur <em>Bewertung</em> von Ergebnissen nicht immer ganz ausreicht (das ist überhaupt keine Kritik an @holger80).

Das 'Drachenreich' ist gemäß meinen Beobachtungen (und eigener Anwendung) eher ein Ergänzungsdeck: Als Summoner wird immer dann 'Selenia Sky' gewählt, wenn es sich, gemäß der vorgegebenen Spielsituation lohnt, sein Lieblings-Splinter mit meist einem, seltener mehr, Drachen zu ergänzen. Wenn der Gegner z. B. gerne das 'Wasser-Reich' benutzt, vorne die gut gepanzerte, dornige Schildkröte, dahinter viel Magic-Power, kann es sich als sinnvoller erweisen, ein 'Life-Splinter' mit einem 'Gold Dragon' zu verstärken, der die Schildkröte mit leichter Hand entzaubert und zudem über 'Magic Reflect' (und Selbstheilung) verfügt.
<br>
Interessant bei der Bewertung des 'Drachenreichs' wäre es, einmal nur solche Matches heruaszufiltern, in denen jemand <em>ausschließlich</em> Drachen benutzt hat (was aber eher selten vorkommen dürfte).

Aufschlussreich wäre m. E. insbesondere eine Auswertung von genau denjenigen Schlachten, in denen <em>beide Spieler </em>ausschließlich</em> Max-Level-Karten verwendeten.

I totally agree with you, I have a favourite maxed out splinter but often have to choose an alternative weaker one because my preferred is not offered. I do also try and take part in the challenges to gain booster cards - although this tends again to force playing as a weaker splinter which tends to mean a loose rank while trying to complete the challenge!

It would cost a lot to uplevel all splinters plus the neutral monsters.
Concerning the neutrals I find it sooo annoying if monsters "loose all abilities", and the opponent puts a 'Peaceful Giant' with a health of 17 in front of a team with strong 'Magic Attack'. Then the battle is already lost before it really started ...
