I haven't been around for well over a year for mostly one reason, and that was that I took up the job of line cook in a busy Montreal vegetarian restaurant, resulting in perpetual exhaustion. I was also logged out and didn't remember where my password was, but eventually my boyfriend found the hidden spot. By then I had gotten out of the steemit routine. I had enjoyed mingling with the friends I had met here, of which many were foodies, vegans, photographers, and story tellers. In fall of 2017 my boyfriend and I went to Mexico hoping to stay for a good long time. We were unprepared and did not have enough ambition to find a way to earn on line to fund our travels. We lasted a good six months thanks to some fellow steemians we had met. They were renting a whole villa that had several apartments in it and rented one to us for very little. We stayed there for over three months, which were the last months of our six months in Mexico. We eventually ran out of money and had to go home to cold and snowy Montreal Canada. Sounds like some crazy childish irresponsible adventures doesn't it? You would think that a woman (me) in her late fifties and her much younger boyfriend approaching forty, would never take a chance like this getting rid of most of their belongings, furniture, clothing, appliances and other items, to take off with a mere four weeks pay each, to venture out without a plan. As much as it felt like we had failed miserably, upon our return to Montreal, staying with Marc's elderly parents until we got on our feet again, we did not have any regrets whatsoever. The job that was easy for us to get with our experience, is line cooking having both worked several years as cooks in busy places. Fortunately we were given the opportunity once more to prove ourselves as hard workers even at our age, especially my age. I am certain I was the oldest female line cook in the city, if not then one of them for sure. We thought we could work a few years, save up lots of money, then travel once more. However our thirst for freedom and adventure, propelled us to cut it short and venture off with less money than planned. After only a little over a year, we decided to leave our jobs, where we had worked side by side and hit the skies once more. Before we left our jobs we purchased a one way ticket to Bangkok, my birthplace, where I don't know anyone. We also purchased a month in an Arbnb. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h51m36s275.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmR39V8ittFJLNKSLQw4bwfpadc6ahhB5WDoGXaiwYVLWY/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h51m36s275.png) We hadn't done much in Bangkok due to jet lag, overall sleep deprivation and the cushy apartment we were staying in. We splurged on a condo with a nice pool for the first month of travel so we could relax. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h46m21s121.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmcVRz2yVSL88nLUbNghkAbfG7GPaDRHoCVVaQXFsdKQPH/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h46m21s121.png) ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-00h59m19s333.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWn6tBxFJb66ANwbN1BJGLP7KcZzSb3N4vkYdkZagBnGE/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-00h59m19s333.png) Aside from a couple of train rides and long walks through the city, we didn't spend much time outside of our gated community. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h51m54s190.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQhKQ8YtxcYXgCsNRbp7WPUYFUwJgFKYCtD2XugB1RTCu/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h51m54s190.png) ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h46m32s837.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmX5t7TivBVVxdEiP3Xf3twwnXhce4DxELmnuPFuAp1Zji/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h46m32s837.png) The first week we dragged ourselves to China Town to see what there was, but looking through tired eyes made things less interesting. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-03h22m35s096.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmV4a55PWy71dwJjZJZX62kpjr1AtKQLxwRLE3FA2fD1J4/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-03h22m35s096.jpg) We also went to the Grand Palace area of town. The temples and buildings were nice to look at but we didn't care to go inside. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h13m48s615.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfCxbjBvw86sKhpVyTkkYh8kYeuzgGzHbpMe8FwJ3sfmi/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h13m48s615.jpg) We made most of our meals at home in our little kitchen. ![DSC_0494.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZ2CMEuWjMjKHTF5fSAEn1cZoR89QTjeoPHQpSn6QaRNZ/DSC_0494.jpg) ![DSC_0695.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZJPuKQVgQxiJ3CkKWUq69KNXiWohdbiEKHoLeZtWgr6u/DSC_0695.jpg) ![DSC_0862.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQma2on3KMta4THPJ9ko9VFKSZfsH2FCJCpxPbbBgG5D7Vy/DSC_0862.jpg) We did go to a few vegan restaurants. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h40m20s327.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNyMgjFbUSquZxo1Qy2k3wojntkyUUxKKNTxSW25NLzWs/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h40m20s327.png) ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h40m56s013.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmcGbFkdWpnoi2YfpFabZ4CTBCtVz1x8NA7uwyCbeq8BaE/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h40m56s013.jpg) ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h37m25s309.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmR7dsrNTzJikeB3uUUM5b6AFrscdHqLafewe2xxV1s1rB/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h37m25s309.png) We also went to a fruit buffet at the top of the Baiyoke tower 2 which is currently the city's tallest building. ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h09m05s664.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNRXC9Y72YY7UE7yvw7Zbe9cyfMw1pMPgZmhkrPYYCCp9/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-04h09m05s664.png) ![vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h25m09s495.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQma3JtpFvKQJEx1M58GVCHzsW6ScqchKKUs5qyDdm9AJFb/vlcsnap-2020-01-08-02h25m09s495.jpg) This is where I realized the city I was born in and spent the first four years of my life in, was built over. It was covered by an almost surreal landscape, sort of what I imagined the future to be like when I was younger. It was hideous and beautiful at the same time. After one month we left for Bali where we are now. All the best in the New Year everybody!
