One of the most intriguing elements that these forces encountered was the
Monster of Luso.
X-ray, like the other columns had frequent skirmishes, but the resistance was fairly easily overcome and they made good progress towards Lu
Foxbat had been sent out to try an alternative route via Ebo because the bridge along the Tar road (bridge 14) had been destroyed by retreating MPLA an Cuban forces. The MPLA had taken a beating in the area in November and retreated over the bridge. They blew up after crossing to the other side to slow the South African advance.
Once over that river there were many roads and possible routes to Luanda. It was this that had Fidel Castro in such a state and poring troops into Angola.
It was this obstacle, that had sent Foxbat of
It wasn't long before they had been flown to Nigeria and later Addis-Ababa and paraded before eager television cameras and thereby the rest of the world.
Even the mothers, of the SA conscripted teenagers, would now know that their sons were bleeding and shedding blood in Angola.
The US could not openly be seen backing South African, due to its unpopular apartheid policies. The CIA had lost their team they were backing and had just witnessed the fall of Saigon. The Cubans were escalating their involvement to add to the USA nervousness.

The U.S. spends over half a trillion dollars on defense each year. In 2011, for example, the U.S. spent more (in absolute numbers) on its military than the next 13 nations combined. Currently, it has dropped to the next 7 nations combined.
The U.S. unofficially has taken the responsibility of defense for Europe through NATO. Many key nations in Europe today count on the U.S. to sail through a global conflict. This puts a huge burden on the country. With such a responsibility, observers expect the U.S. to have an up-to-date warfare technology that can aptly face its adversaries.
But a U.S. national document prepared for congress has revealed that the country’s nuclear weapons are still being controlled by an outdated technology. According to the document, the military’s nuclear arsenal is controlled by computers built in the 1970s that still use 8-inch floppy disks.
The White House has announced the end of it's not so secret, CIA program that was designed to train and arm new recruits for the Free Syrian Army, in an effort to oust Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. Over a billion dollars have been dropped into this black op over the last four years and was an epic failure. Those that did make it through the training were either kidnapped by or freely joined Al-Qaeda and/or Al-Nusra, along with the equipment and weapons they were provided.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has been pushing her Stop Arming Terrorists Act, in Congress, since January and more recently, been joined by Sen. Rand Paul in the Senate. Between the two of them, they managed to gather only 2% support for the Act. For an Act that spells out, in the simplest terms, that the United States, needs to Stop Arming Terrorists, should logically garner enormous support, from both sides of the aisle. Not so much.
Nashville, NC – A police chief in a small eastern North Carolina town, Chief Thomas Bashore, in collaboration with town manager Hank Raper, began a program -- using compassion instead of violence -- known as the HOPE initiative that is both saving lives and lowering crime.
Nashville, North Carolina, a town of 5,400 offers a unique program to help addicts recover, rather than continue the cycle of crime and addiction, by allowing addicts to turn themselves into police with their drugs and paraphernalia, without being thrown in a cage.
Instead of them facing arrest, they get help getting into a program to fight addiction.
Thomas Spikes, 24, has battled addiction since before he was a teenager, and credits Bashore with saving his life by putting him on a path to recovery from the deadly scourge of
In Italy the Grand Council of the fascist government met July 25 to discuss the future of Italy. Realizing that Italy probably losing the War it was discussed to give more power to the King. The king decided for a new prime minister in Pietro Badoglio. Mussolini was arrested by the police, arranged his personal safety on an island. Mussolini was already tired and sick that time and probably gave up his ambitious plans with his German allies.
Benito Mussolini has been born 1883 and worked as teacher before he started as socialist when he was a young politician. He was very skilled with a impressive reputation for his rhetorical talents. His name came from the Mexican left-wing president Benito Juarez. The Italian attendance at World War I was when he broke with socialism - he thought the war could be a chance for Italy to become a great Power. He
I don't ascribe to the Mandela Effect as a way of explaining why a memory may not match up with a current reality. We all have brain farts; those moments when, through distraction or something else, the brain doesn't process information correctly. To me, the reason so many people probably believed Mandela died in jail was simply because, while he was in jail, they heard a rumor to that effect. Maybe, they even saw something about it on the news. Their brain responded by filing Nelson Mandela under 'deceased', and they didn't bother thinking of it anymore. Later on, the rumors were proven false, but their brain still kept the folder labelled 'Mandela - Deceased' somewhere in its depths, and failed to update it. It happens all the time. Your brain remembers that you put your keys on the table, but forgets to update that information when you pick them up and put them in your pocket.
Even though the Mandela Effect affected thousands of people, it is explicable as a simple trick of the mind. A rumor im
Having served in Fallujah in 2004 with a Marine Corps Civil Affairs Team and come home with some mixed feelings, I have some thoughts I'd like to share with my active duty brothers and sisters. Although I am dead set against killing for Trump, we share the noble cause of being willing to put our lives on the line for this country. There are some critical lessons to be learned from recent history that directly relate to your life in uniform. Whether you choose to recognize that connection is up to you.
Foreign policy is the primary reason the federal government is bankrupt and has to borrow about 40 cents of every dollar it spends. The debt per citizen is over $60,000. That's a stone around the neck of every child who is supposed to be born free. For the sake of argument, let's accept that the threat of terrorism is as bad as the government claims (which is a pretty ridiculous assertion
War, an event that seems synonymous with humanity.
- Wherever this vessel cuts through the horizons, our allies will rest easy and our enemies will shake with fear because everyone will know that America is coming and America is coming strong,Trump said.
18 days ago I posted my first diary session, a way of expressing my interest in understanding the human mind and interests.
Today, after hearing about the new carrier and getting on with Dunkirk, I couldn't help but think
Since the beginning of human evolution, evidence from history has shown that man has

Since I was little, growing up with very studious, super intelligent Older brothers, 3 of them, I took so much interest in their activities. When I was 10 years old, I became increasingly interested in a subject they took at school and that was HISTORY. I now have a major in history and after raising my children, I found time to indulge in the vast domain of history.
All or most of us have that
thing in our lives that fascinates us. Whilst raising my children, they often had history assignments and I just loved helping them, providing ideas and knowledge. After such assignments, both of us felt that we had learned so much and been awarded with 100% and to this day the assignments are still displayed in the relevant history classes. Doing this together enhanced our relationships.
July 20 in 1881 the Sioux Indian Chief Sitting Bull did surrender to the US federal troops. This was 5 years after the famous battle at Little Big horn hin defeated the troops of General Custer. Sitting Bull accepted a promise by the troops of amnesty for him and his following.
Sitting Bull was a charismatic leader and capable warrior with visionary thinking - we would need some here on steemit too. From 1867 onwards he became the overall chief of the Sioux nation. I read about American Natives a lot when I was a kid and their story and their fights are still very important to me. Not sure this is a part of US history everyone likes to discuss but the US did not very good here in terms of handling these people.
Sitting Bull died December 15, 1890 when Indian police entered his house in South Dakota to arrest him. The details are still a mystery and not clear
Christmas was coming and the Church was organizing a re-enactment of the Christmas Story. It would feature many angels and I volunteered to be an angel right away.
“Not you” The priest said. “You can not be an angel or anyone in the play because you are not Catholic”.
I went home crying. Mom gave me a hug and asked; “Illa, don’t you remember Easter? On Palm Sunday you were not allowed in the procession either. It doesn’t matter if you want to be an angel or the devil, you are still not Catholic.”
“Mutti! I don’t want to be the devil. I want to be an angel with a long white dress and wings. I could let my hair down and look really pretty.”
*“It will not happen. Illa, just forget about it. I will tell you something the two of us can
Over the weekend, I saw the new Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk. The movie follows the World War II story of British soldiers trapped on the French beach of Dunkirk, trying to get home while the enemy closes in.
The movie was excellent...
We should learn from history. And one of the basic premises of war history says:
Choose your battle. And that's not only because you need to the place and time so you aren't facing the sun. It's also about more moral things, like who you are going to fight and the reasons behind you fighting.
Don't get into a unfavorable fight just because the enemy wants to fight. Think about the reasons behind the conflict and whether a fight is even needed. It the one your gonna fight really an enemy?
One of the most interesting showcases of
how important it is to choose your fight from the tech industry is the conflict between Atari and Commodore in the years 1985 - 1994. Neither of the companies wanted to fight originally - they just wanted to bring a cheap 16-bit computer and they wanted to compete mainly with PCs and Macintosh. Specially Atari ST was designed as a cheap computer for work.
It's really stran
Come av
Remember those famous movies about the Second World War where the German Nazi officer characters carry and use this iconic pistol?
Also known as the godfather of the modern combat handgun, the Walther P38 is a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Walther Arms as the service pistol of the German military under the Nazis (Wehrmacht) shortly before the Second World War.
During the war, P38 pistols were made by several factories, including the Walther itself. After the war, most of the ex-Walther machinery ended up in France as war reparations to the French, and many of the post-war P38 pistols were actually built in France, by the Manurhin factory.
The Walther P38 was the first manufactured pistol having some design features common in handguns today and was a p
