Steemit, Steem and STEEM are often terms that are confused because they are poorly understood. In this article I will try to show you the differences so that you never make any mistakes again!
# Steemit
Steemit is the first social network, and more specifically a blogging platform designed on the idea of Reddit, based on a blockchain. The name of this blockchain is Steem and it produces a daily amount of STEEM that rewards the created content.
I like to say that Steemit is a gateway to enter the Blockchain Steem and see the data without knowing or understanding what a blockchain or cryptocurrency.
So we can say that Steemit is the visible part (the front end) of a website that uses as a back end, a blockchain. The back end of a website allows you to authenticate there for example.
Steemit is the first (and best known) website based on the Steem blockchain. It is usually via this platform that we take our first steps on the blockchain Steem. And by first steps I mainly talk about blogging, upvotes and social interactions through comments.

# Steem
When you write Steem, it usually means that you talk about the Steem blockchain. It allows the creation of a new generation of social networks. The use of blockchain technology allows cryptocurrency and decentralization of the network (that is, no one owns it but rather the management is distributed to the hands of the users who want it). All transations are transparent (each action performed on the blockchain is kept in the blocks and they can not be modified or deleted).
The code of the blockchain is completely open-source that means that everyone is entitled to propose modifications, create applications (such as for example Busy.org, DTube, ChainBB etc.) that will form a ecosystem and even, some have done it, to use it to create an alternative version.
When an account is created and users start posting content, these actions are not stored on servers owned by a company. Several copies of the content are stored in different parts of the world, on what is called a distributed network. Blockchain Steem has the particularity of redistributing much of the value produced by Blockchain content creators. In fact, nearly 75% of the value created is redistributed. The rest is used for network operation.
Steem is a blockchain that is created by Steemit Inc but is maintained by Witnesses (who are not part of Steemit Inc and you can be a part of it). To put it simply: The blocks that make up the blockchain contain all the information about your actions on Steem (publishing blog posts, votes, comments and money transfer).

# STEEM
STEEM is the cryptocurrency created every day by the Steem blockchain. Be careful, you will notice that the currency is in capital letters!
It takes a value by entering the cryptocurrency exchange market. This value is measured on its utility, its scarcity and the confidence placed in it on the markets. More a product, service, etc. is useful, sought after and rare, the more its value increases.
It's the same for the money we know (euros, dollars etc.). By the way, when a block is created with 1.67 STEEM in it, it's like the bank is printing a new ticket.
