I've considered what "reality" is myself, and have not come to any end-point where I can say I fully grasp it.
We're continuously living in the past, the rate by which the neural impulses travel to our brains *(and is then mapped internally using our mental filters)* means we're perpetually living in the "near-now", but most certainly not the PRESENT.
Stumbling along, we try to piece things together as they have already happened, and predict to a small degree what will happen as best we can.
To your point about feedback loops, it overlaps well with something called "emergent complexity" where small systems interacting with each other, or simple rule-based things, produce outputs of amazing depth and variation.
