What Is It Like, Snow?

6 years ago we had a proper winter with proper snow. Everyone in the hood got out to play in the snow and build snowmen.

An informal competition of sorts was going on between the snowman builders, each trying to outdo the other.

Yours truly build one of the larger ones even with blue fingers from a shut down circulation due to the cold. The job had to be done.

We haven't had snow this year, and it's not looking like it will happen. This winter had been predicted to be bitterly cold, but I have to say, it hasn't been as cold as expected.

I may be speaking too early though. We're only about halfway through the season. There's still time I guess :) ❄️

### *Some like it cold*
Having said the above, I'm so not a winter person. I'm pretty much done with it already. I actually know people that *love* winter. They dream about it during the other seasons. They're like *Jon Snow* or something, or one of those *wildling people from beyond the wall.*

I was a teenager when I saw snow for the first time. Perhaps I had seen it as an infant, but had no memory of it. It was a pretty memorable experience.

I had actually been a bit terrified of how cold it would be. I imagined it would be the coldest day ever. Ironically the week that proceeded the snowfall was actually much colder.

I remember taking time to hold some powder in my hand and inspect the texture. I was more interested in the structure of the flakes than anything else. I *had* seen it before, I thought to myself - in my mum's freezer when we lived in the tropics.

The icy stuff that forms in the freezer in warm countries is a little fluffier and much resembles frozen snow, and as such became the way I described it to people from the tropics that have never had the experience. *"You know when you open a deep freezer?..."*
