Losing Sight of What's Important
Social media has forever changed how we interact with each other, how we view the world around us and even how we view ourselves.  It a very powerful tool but it is has a double edge sword.  It can make us lose touch with the things that really matter..  In essence it  plays on our innate needs like gratification, self worth and the need to loved.

I have been on steemit for the past couple of months and it has been an interesting journey.  I use the picture above to kinda highlight how we can be so immersed in something that we can miss out on other things that are going on around us.  Steemit does incentivize us to do what we already do online but at the same time it is still social media and can become an obsession.

Before I started this post I was reflecting on a lot of things.  It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind; trying to forward our careers; looking for that one opportunity that one will make our lives “easier”. This obsession with “success” can be healthy but as the only saying goes “everything in moderation”. 

Now don’t get me wrong, I love this platform.  It has so much potential but I think it also has the ability to mess with people's perception of themselves.  I don’t think this is specific to just steemit but media in general whether it be social or mainstream.  For me I'm just hoping to find a balance and not lose sight of what I want to accomplish here.  It can get easy to become consumed with the day to day and forget about what really matters.

Man this hit so close to home. Grateful for your transparency on this one.  Yes moderation is key. My son is three and is with me 24/7. I'm fortunate to be able to work from home and spend time with my son, yet it's been just a bit of a challenge to keep up with the demands from work and not having him just off in front of a screen hours straight. Although he's only entertained by his educational programs at the moment, I still feel the need to find that one-on-one time more often. Thanks for sharing man.

First off those children look so happy! that made me smile. 

I notice social media can suck many people in so I think your post had wise words to keep in mind. So far I have been feeling ok about it but I was never much of a social media type person. I try to get my one post a day out and the feedback I have been getting has been very positive so that motivates me more.

I try to keep it my "hobby" time and I feel ok with it cause I think its mostly constructive. I do find myself wanting to read more blogs. I think I tend to be focused on my posts and sometimes don't give other blogs the attention they deserve.

Wise words and ones I am sure I will keep in mind as I Steem on!
