If you are continually at work or school and cannot take care of yourself then maybe you are working an excessive amount of, however, I doubt that is the problem. Being in construction, you are likely more damaged in this sense. The reality is that seeking help through counselling is maybe the single-best route for help for you. <h3> A Shock To The System </h3> We live in this modern society, and our brains are not genetically-tuned to all or any of these technological gadgets. We are not designed to lounge around on sofas intaking calories and staring at viewscreens, communicating through short, mindless text messages all day long as opposed to intimate eye-to-eye communication, to drive around in machines with wheels as opposed to walking. My advice to you'd be to investigate the modern comforts of your life. Try reading a book to relax rather than watching a screen. Get outdoors and walk whenever you are able to rather than driving. Don't send short, mindless texts whenever you wish to speak, meet people face to face and get the complete experience. <h3> Being Healthier In Your Life </h3> Look at the ingredients-labels of the foods you purchase and try to eat more naturally, and get to know the extremely bad things to consume like nitrates in processed meats and hydrogenated oils that are in just about everything. There's also the ethical element to life, as modern humans we take and take however rarely give back. This can be depressing because our society has become so base. Give frequently to charity and begin volunteering somewhere. These types of things are sources of strength that may never be detached from you. I agree that taking your mind off things by doing something constructive is a good way to escape for a short while. The problem with depression is that thereās nothing that is interesting enough to put your effort in, at least in my experience. Seeking help might be a good idea for a lot of people, but it is a very big step when youāre suffering from depression because you can not see a positive outcome. And in the end, the only one who can really help you, is you. For me personally, the people that were educated to help me, only got me to sink in even deeper, because consulting them was another affirmation that I was too weak to live up to the standards of others: my family, society,... people are simply not designed to be living like we all do these days. The pressure of having to accomplish goals that are defined by society is unhealthy. There is hardly enough time and energy to accomplish the goals you set for yourself. Iām slowly escaping the monster that is called depression, small steps at a time, by realizing the only goal one should accomplish is to be, and to live in the present, minute by minute, second by second. Donāt get fooled by expectations anf standards you should live up to, because there are none. There is no yesterday, there is no tomorrow, thereās only now. The key is being able to let go, to not hold on to things that once were or might will be some day. Sigh - maybe there is no key at all. But if thereās not, you can do nothing else than let go, and move on...

I found helping others very therapeutic when I was suffering bouts of depression. The ability to help others makes us feel useful, which feeds into the same idea of hard work helping with depression.
