My Peace With Ground Zero ~ 9/11 Memorial and My Reflection by Poem

*I stand here alone in silence with eyes wet
Leaves fall all over the ground where I used to walk
There is nothing left here that seems normal or kind
Everything seems so alone to me anymore
Once more I come here hoping for reconciliation
Your bodies rest nowhere I know of or can find now
Beyond an eternity with your dreams scattered out
Pain still rests here and in my mind I settle down
Days spent wondering why time sat still
The trickles of water lead me into darkness again
The sun shines off the water and into my eyes
Vivid reflections bring tears to my dry cheeks
Snow falls and leaves blow some time later
This blanket will quiet me as I walk through once more
I will feel almost everything and nothing at all
Time steals my memories as God heals my soul*

Thank you for taking the time to read my poem. I have made several trips to the 9/11 memorial to visit friends still missing but not from my heart. Lots of thoughts go through my head as I look for their names while reading the others to the left and to the right. If your thinking about going, definitely do so.

This photo shook me. Very beautiful and moving. Most of all its relevance.  Thank you for your work. and may this tragic event always be remembered not by the terror that it brought but by the memories of those people we have lost.

I 100% agree. I've visited the museum a few times; that's a reminder of the terror in my opinion (but still I see the point and the intrigue). I absolutely love the fountains though. We can spend hours there..less if the sun is beating down on you. I think it's a bit more calming for those who still have no remains for closure. I like to focus on the memories I have.
