Maybe so but, for many, BTC is a held as a store of value and is being HODL-ed so they don't place a high importance on transaction fees. The priority attributes for a store of value is censorship-resistance, security, and a large community of seasoned developers to keep it secure. Things like transaction fees and transactions-per-second and of secondary importance. LTC and DASH would be good choices for a crypto coin to be used for micro-transactions and such.

This is my line of thinking as well. If we compromise on decentralization and censorship resistance then what are we left with? High fees suck, but I'm also patient if it means we get sound, immutable money.
