# So today is the day my wife went into labor with our second child. I have a daughter coming into the world today.

### We're both at the hospital right now... me typing sheepishly on a laptop, while my life lies in bed in the  listening to the nurse rattle off a small novel of paperwork and 'check-the-block' documents so the hospital can't be held responsible if the mother feels a bit litigious after the epidural wears off.

* Since my wife's veins are the sort of things phlebotomists nightmares are made of, she was the lucky recipient of an IV stick on the top of the hand. She was not stoked about this. At least that parts over. Now she gets to look forward to the joys of a giant needle in the spine. Yay!

* __Random Thought__: When we informed the nurse that it was a girl, she replied 'As long as the ultrasound was right!' Wow. That would be a total mind-blow. Having it set in my head that I have a daughter on the way, only to see a boy come out would certainly enter into the 'bizarro-world' area. Yikes. Not that it would matter either way, but that boy would have a lot of pink clothes to wear.

* I'm fairly certain that my wife will go into labor during the presidential election tonight. I wonder if the delivering physician will want it playing on the TV in the background?.... Dammit. It's not set to record on our DirecTV.

* I asked my wife what she wanted to tell the Steemit community. Her response: "Nothing. I'm too nervous to talk. I just want this damn epidural to be over with." Fair enough. Won't ask that again.

* Note to future fathers: Your wife is not in a good mood and it likely has a lot to do with you. Don't take it personally, just realize that its the normal gripes about you amplified by 1000x since she's miserable, sore, and carrying a large, wriggling creature in her insides. You may get frustrated with her volatile nature, but its worth it in the long run. Just try to avoid making her mad. Knives _will_ come out.

* I hate contractions, and I don't even have to deal with the pain of them. It sucks watching my wife wince in pain while I just stare at her like a goon. In the background, the baby's heart rate ramps up like she just got into a fight with a honey badger. Can't help but feel that 'Fear' wash over me as if something bad is happening. Then I realize it happened last time, and its happened for as long as mammals have given birth. Back to watching crappy cable TV with a remote speaker powered by a potato.

* I need to stop looking at my wife when the heart rate monitor starts sky-rocketing. Its from the contractions and she just looks at me cockeyed like I'm crazy or something. I don't mean anything by it! It's instinctual, dammit!

* Feeling useless is the name of the game as a father during the labor process. Standing around looking at doctors and nurses running around with needles and IVs leave me with the general feeling that "I'm in the way".... even if they say I'm not. Oh well. I'll just keep this seat occupied.

* The in-laws arrived with our son. He's excited. Less about having a new sister, but more about the ImagiNext Blackbeard Pirate Cove toy he was promised for his new sister coming. Now for the joy of trying to figure out how he's going to sleep in this tiny, cramped room. Added bonus: he hasn't had a nap today so he's entered into delirium mode

* ### She's out! Baby Adriana came out nice and healthy, weighing a solid 7 pounds and 14 ounces. She didn't even have a conehead! She's gorgeous and healthy. She's already got her eyes open and looking adorable. And in case you're wondering, yes I did shed a tear. It was easily as overwhelming of an emotion as our first. Absolutely wild.

## I'll have more updates of fatherhood Part Deux in the near future.  Something tells me having two kids will be exponentially more challenging. Fortunately, I'm highly trained in operating with little sleep. Thanks Army!
