Power - Season 4 (Real-Time) Review - Part 2 (Spoilers!)

Here it is, the second part to my real time review of Power's fourth season episodes 6 through 10 and the eighth part in total (I've done two of these for each season). I watch an episode, I document my experience, I publish it on Steemit. Without further ado, here it is, let's go!

Episode 6 ''New Man''

Tommy's little road trip to meet the Serbian overlords was a little fruitless, as soon as we saw Petar materialise into the scene next to the open grave it was painfully obviously that he'd be going into it and not Tommy! On his journey home Tommy stops off in Cleveland to murder a paedophile who'd apparently molested Holly as a 9 year old girl which would have been great but this was the first time we'd heard about it so it felt forced and unearned, if she'd even mentioned it once that would have been enough, but to suddenly throw that idea into the mix out of nowhere was just a poor excuse to squeeze another murder scene in there!

Andre's plot to get Julio out of the way seemed to go fairly well, and fair play to Julio, he took two of those three mother fuckers out, congrats! Obviously the guy who was run over by Tommy is an idiot and despite Andre's only request for him to make the murder look like it was done by another gang he still fails to do it and slices that 718 tattoo right off of Julio's neck, confirming his gang as the culprits. There was no Angela in this episode, I don't hate that! Jukebox puts pressure on Kanan to get her paid for Tariq's kidnapping and he finally reveals himself to Ghost. I really hope we get to see more of them working as a team, it was great!

That last scene was powerful, no pun intended, it proved that Kanan, despite everything we've seen him do, does actually have a heart buried deep inside him somewhere and that he finally made a good choice morally! Jukebox forces them both to tell Tariq the truth about who they were and Kanan, as soon as he had the opportunity, put a couple bullets in her and decided to let Ghost live, running off into the night with a bag of money woefully leaving Ghost with a distraught Tariq, who must have lost all ability to trust anything at this point. It was a great scene and it felt like a long time coming, I hope we see Kanan return sooner rather than later!

Episode 7 ''You Lied to My Face''

The old guy Ghost met in prison who's obviously Tommy's father finally gets to speak to Tommy and let him know that he's his father. Ghost and Tasha's eldest daughter starts showing signs of going in a similar direction that Tariq did but she's more likeable as a person so it's even worse! The FBI task force finally get back together and it looks like they've finally realised Sandoval is their guy! It fucking took them long enough, what a bunch of idiots. Sandoval turns up at the black cop's house to kill him but he's not in and his daughter answers the door, which isn't good for Sandoval.

We meet the 718 gang leaders and they're some cold mother fuckers, at least they didn't kill that baby I suppose! Tommy also meets them after Julio's death and demands justice in the form of territory. Tasha seems to be falling for Ghost's slimy little lawyer, what the fuck is she thinking? He's a fucking lizard and we're forced to watch yet another sickening cringe worthy sex scene with them both set to, you guessed it, cheesy fucking RnB music, it's not that far off from the sex scenes in The Room, they're so horrible and completely unnecessary it's just unforgivable, it's puke worthy!

Tariq, having just witnessed a murder and finding out that not only was his father lying to him but that Kanan, his new best friend, had been lying to him the whole time as well. He asks Tommy about Kanan going to jail and whether or not he knew and Tommy's forced to lie to him as well! They should just come clean to him at this point, lying to the kid ain't doing anyone any favours. The eldest sister's pretty much in the loop now as well on what's going on and she just wants to run away. Tommy appoints Andre to replace Julio and the wheels keep on turning.

Episode 8 ''It's Done''

Tariq calls Kanan's friends to work on another robbery with them despite everything that's happend and when it turns into a rape realises the mistake he's made. The eldest sister's escape plan is sounding a lot more appealing to him as well, he seems to have received the correct dose he needed to decide against the life Kanan introduced him to. Andre's still slithering his way around everyone and it seems as though he had bigger dreams than just replacing Julio, he wants to replace Tommy and Ghost as well and forms a relationship with the 718 gang to that affect, the snake, but still fair play to him!

This is a show recommended to me by a couple friends of mine and the main thing that stuck out to them was the use of a Grime artist's song, Jaykae's song Toothache to be exact, so I've been waiting for that song to play for, well, up to now. It finally plays and it's usually decently, the whole song pretty much gets played and it's set to the murder of Sandoval by Tommy's newfound father, whatever his name is. These writer's are terrible at introducing characters, anything new is always done poorly but they're okay at using something already established to dramatic effect, they're fucking introductions though!

Tasha and that lizard lawyer continue their relationship under Ghost's nose, literally, everyone in Power talks loudly about secrets their hiding from a person who's either standing a couple of feet away or in the other room. Ghost, back under Stern's watch, works on expanding his empire into real estate. Tommy does a little reasearch in an attempt to find proof that the man claiming to be his father actually is and finds it much to his mother's dismay. That's about it for this episode, 36 down, 2 to go, and a confirmed fifth season, which is a little daunting.

Episode 9 ''That Ain't Me''

Andre's plan seems to work out pretty well for him and Tommy's left with nothing so he visits his father in prison and asks to be introduced to his ''family'', being Sicilian I'm picturing some sort of Mafia situation here, but knowing the Mafia (watching The Sopranos) there's no chance that they'd accept someone like Tommy into their organisation! It seems as though the guy who helped Ghost get one over on Stern is actually a connected guy in the streets who now poses a threat to Ghost, I don't know what it is he wants yet but it's definitely something.

There's a bit of a reach, another one at least, in regard to the woman from the first episode who's boyfriend was shot by Ghost in cold blood, this was before they'd established who exactly they want him to be character-wise, any way, she was back for a quick scene, she's a waitress working at some sort of diner and on the television in that diner happens to be Ghost saying words he'd said to her and she remember and knew right away! That's a headache for him waiting to happen, but, yeah, like I said, it's a reach, you have to get used to that sort of thing with Power though.

Tariq, after being tracked down by Kanan's buddy; the one who dresses up like a policeman and who intends to kill him, makes a run for it and his sister Raina approaches said assassin and he puts a bullet in her instead! This opens up a lot of things for future storylines, for starters, Ghost retuning to his gangster ways and Kanan returning to help him exact revenger on his daughter's killer! It also leads to Tariq exacting his own revenge for his sister, it won't be a good thing for any of the characters but it should lead to some decent entertainment!

Episode 10 ''You Can't Fix This''

I absolutely loved the scene where Tariq kills Ray Ray or whatever his name was, Raina's killer! I loved the build, the thick tension and I thought it was a great song choice as well! It brings Ghost, Tommy, Tasha and Tariq into the same room for the same purpose working to the same end, it was awesome! I also really liked the aftermath of it with Tasha schooling Tariq on making sure he's sufficiently washed and that all of his clothes were burned. This was a great episode, possibly one of if not the best so far, it definitely left me wanting more, especially with the three amigos back together!

I love the idea of Ghost, Tommy and Kanan finally working side by side after all this time, it's a long time coming and I'll definitely be tuning into the fifth season which premiers on July 1st to see it. Andre's become their new focus point having taken over Tommy's drug empire and stolen all of his customers, he even killed the priest which was a little unnecessary, stupid move on the priest's part though putting himself at risk like that. As well as Andre there's the 718 gangsters, I always forget their name, the Hermandes? There's also that dickhead councilman who wants to turn Raina's funeral into a press conference!

This was without a doubt the best season so far! They stumbled in that first season and it's taken a while for them to find their rhythm but they've finally found it, it started showing signs about mid-way through the second season, the third season was okay and this one was a solid good! They need to stop with the awkwardly cringe worthy sex scenes set to shit RnB music and they need to work more on their character and story-line establishment, when anything, a character for example, is introduced it always feels extremely forced and out of nowhere, but outside that all the characters seem to have fallen into place now, everybody is where they need to be.

Thanks for reading. Are you excited for more Power? The fifth season premieres July 1st and it's been confirmed for a sixth as well. What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you for the next one!
