It is true that Steem could be used by various platforms. But the thing is, not all the platforms are interested in the same topic. As a smaller community, let's say the Portuguese community here on Steem. They might want to have their own tokens so that each vote with the PortugalCoin has much more influence than it has now. By creating a separate pool of money, they can have more weight in their community. For example, 3,000 dollars of SP now only gives your vote of around 1 or 2 cents in the Steem Power pool because the Steem Power pool is enormous, hundreds of millions dollar large. But by having another pool specifically for Portuguese content, let's say around 100,000 dollars, your 3,000 dollar investment into Portugal Power could mean 1 or 2 dollars per vote.

Hmm.. not sure if it works out this way, because if the total pool is only 100K$ you certainly wouldn't get 1$ equivalent on curation, even though you would be a mega-whale in the network. I understand the idea of having branded token and community aspect, but it reminds me a bit of the early times of social media when many tried to build their own social network, based on similar arguments. That just to illustrate the futility of such attempts. I believe that a more accessible and versatile Steem would be much more effective, than a platform to create your own tokens, that also feels a bit like an uninspired attempt to copy ETH's ico scheme

hmmm come to think about it, I think you're right. The math doesn't add up. But still, a 3,000 dollar investment would give you much more influence on the specific community. Although the dollar amount remains the same, the ability to push contents increases. What do you mean a more accessible and versatile Steem?

Yeah certainly a 3K$ would make you a bigger fish, in the pond. As regards accessibilty, when i registered for steem i had to provide my phone-number and then wait about 10 ways to get registered, HF20 should bring a much quicker way to bring new users, with a base level of bandwith, without extra delegation. So that might be there already there. As regards versatility i am thinking of ways to adapt payout duration, author/curation ratio, stuff like that that could be different in different implementations of steem.
