Here's something else I just noticed today, this dark square hole in the brush by the creek. It's funny that I have walked this trail hundreds of times, in all four seasons and I never saw this before.  I have no idea where that water is coming from because there are no other creeks around, just the one that winds through the park. Doesn't that look like the perfect place for a troll to live? I'm letting my imagination loose for a Halloween story!  We already have these spooky concrete blocks that serve no purpose I've ever found, now I find hidden entrances into the underworld.  I can see just see a pair of eyes glowing back in the recesses of this hole.   And a low pitched growl echoing ominously from the depths.  And who knows what might be submerged just below the surface of that calmly rippled water in front.  It might just be the entrance to a sinkhole that is hundreds of feet deep, a watery pathway to the home of untold creatures.

Scary thought Halloween thoughts aside, today was a beautiful fall day that the weather forecasters got entirely wrong and in a good way this time.  It was supposed to rain all day but instead, it was a bright sunny 69 degrees.  A little windy but otherwise perfect for a few extra rounds around the loop.

I just hope they aren't wrong about Wednesday because we're planning on driving 100 miles south to the Garden of the Gods and hopefully catch some beautiful fall color while hiking.  Here's a picture that I took of Camel Rock on a previous fall trip to here.  See why we want to go back?   This is about the closest thing we have to stunning landscapes to hike within driving distance.
