### _Headframes_ are things they built above vertical mining shafts back in Leadville's boom days.

### They built _headframes_ as a kind of aboveground anchor, and they attached cables to it, and they sent those cables down the mining shaft, so they could haul ore up out of the earth.

### The things I have to say are related to the fact that [there is no reason for me to be writing right now](https://steemit.com/writing/@brandt/i-wish-there-was-a-reason-for-me-to-be-writing-right-now). I've tried to find a reason. I've tried so hard, so many times. But the reason isn't there. Some people seem to have writing figured out. They seem to have a reason. They know how to scroll down, and then scroll back up, without any problems. But I can't figure it out. I can't scroll down, or up, or anywhere really, without creating some kind of complicated cantankerous mess of everything. I'm just not very good at writing. I've tried to be good at writing, I've tried so hard, so many times, but I'm just not good at it. Writing just seems to get the best of me. I don't understand writing, but writing understands me, apparently, because it always gets the best of me. Writing knocks me down, and then when I stand back up it knocks me down again. Writing is brutal. Writing is brutal. It's brutal. I guess what I'm trying to say is,

Looks like a catapult, like every wooden structure that doesn't make sense to me.  That explains the enormous crater. 

I don't have a reason to write either.  Your right, *it* has us.  Being a writer *makes* us write.  It's a painful disease.  I'm a little masochistic.
