Sawdust Time

Hi friends,

I do not have a lot of experience doing woodworking projects, but have done a little “self-educating”, mostly by watching YouTube videos, and have had fun doing a few projects.  Finding time to do them is always tricky with young kids clamoring for your time, so many things like this are put on the back burner.

Well, this last weekend I really needed to fabricate a new cover for one of the crawl space access points to get under our house, as we noted a stray cat had gotten down under there when we attempted to chase it away.  This served as a good excuse to pull out the tools and make some sawdust!

The old crawl space cover had rotted out wood, so I picked up an 8 foot (4 inch by 2 inch) piece of Doug Fir from the Home Depot and got started.

I then cut the wood into pieces – 2 for the top, and two to use as support to hold it together underneath. I also found some outdoor protective Urethane in my garage, which I painted on as a sealant to protect against the elements and make it last longer.

This was a relatively simple project, but I did blow the motor out on my previous circular saw and got a new one for Christmas, so this was a good test of the new saw.  I had a good time on this project, and although it may not be fancy or something that anybody really sees (sits on the side of the house), I enjoyed making some sawdust!
