Of course you're not only RhNeg, but you also have a mysterious protein in your blood - you are a "breed apart," so to speak about, an old soul, and science has yet to discern if **reincarnation** has anything to do with it, or if it's all genetic trickery. Suffice to say, you are extraordinary!

My sister (she of the Cold Case) was AB negative but didn't live long enough to donate blood.

Did I leave out the Rhesus factor? I was hurrying, trying to get that post finished, and doing the usual injustice to the "Five Minute" Freewrite. I love, love, LOVE your haiku and post on your own benevolent dragon, and McAffrey and LeGuin dragons with their strong warrior-heroines.
*I've got to make the next block party where so many of us get to meet face to face!*

Absolutely, I can't ___wait___ to meet you in person! We'll have an absolute blast!!!

Funny, my sister Carol and I talked years ago about the potential for a link between multiple lives aka reincarnation) and DNA anomalies, including blood typing.

Carol's blood was so pure that she could donate plasma to infants, highly unusual for an adult, and even more so because she smoked for decades.

Her doctor even told her once that she had "patentable factors " in her blood, and asked her to sign a release, which she did. Not that she ever saw any benefit.

We talked at the time, and I wondered whether my "extra protein" and her "patentable factors " might be one and the same. I guess we'll never know.

Then there's my mom, who was diagnosed in 1997 with policythemia, a blood disorder in which too much of all the factors are present, so too many platelets, red cells, ___and___ white cells.

It's sort of the flip side of leukemia.

The interesting thing is that it is generally limited to elderly Jewish men, so naturally my mostly-Scottish mom wound up with it. Maybe her last go round was as a rabbi.

And then there's me. I really shouldn't have survived childhood, and without modern medicine, I wouldn't have. And then, by about age ten or so, I outgrew most of it.

I gave blood from the time I was able, age sixteen with my mom's permission, and she and Carol always donated with me . . . they had each been donating for a long time already.

Then in 1994, after being called to donate by Florida Blood Services, because they were low on my blood type, I got a call a few days later asking me to call them.

The short version is that I test positive for one of the factors of hepatitis C, and negative for the other factor.

I've never had hepatitis, but I can no longer give blood, and every time my blood is checked . . . same result. Positive for one, negative for the other. My logic is that I should still be able to donate for the benefit of those who ___already have___ hep C, but no, that's not how they work.

So yeah. Clearly alien in origin. ;-)
