The company said that 10 funds have invested 4.3 million USD in it. It will use the funds to create a secure market for genomes - the chemical codes that determine how organisms grow and work. Among the investors in Nebula Genomics are Khosla Ventures, Arch Venture Partners and Fenbushi Capital. Nebula Genomics works in partnership with Veritas Genetics International. Thanks to genomic studies, companies such as Alnylam Pharmaceuticals have the ability to create medicines that are precisely targeted to the damaged genes. The food giant Nestle wants to use DNA data to create special nutrition programs for its consumers. Their development and refinement, however, still require huge volumes of consumer information, and people may not want to share it because of their fears of storing them, and whether their actions will be rewarded. "Our investors, like Veritas, share their commitment to reducing organisms in access to genomic data", said Kamal Obbad, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Nebula. "Through this funding we are approaching a new era of personalized medicine", added he. The health and DNA data, especially information about genomes, is considered a gold mine for companies that collect them as part of their business. The pharmaceutical companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, buy access to data from 23andMe, which has created one of the largest genetic databases in the world. The English National Health System works with Sensyne Health to collect anonymous user data for studies.
