This time of year in Thailand it is always a gamble about what the weather will hold in store for us. As we approach the peak of the monsoon season there is always a good chance for rain but in the years that I have been doing this we have only ONCE called of a run because of inclement weather and that weather wasn't just inclement but was mass flooding that destroyed people's houses. I think this was a very good reason to call off the run especially since many of the roads were washed out and simply getting together was an exercise in futility.
Some would argue that all of our exercise is futile but we do it anyway.
Not long ago we were on our way to a run and the skies opened up and guess what? We did the trek anyway!

When this happens there will normally be considerably fewer people that are actually running but there are a few, I just couldn't keep up with them. They are the guys that get just as wet from sweat as they would from the rain so in their minds, other than the squishy boots, there really isn't any difference. For us old fellas though, we slow down to a walk and bring our umbrellas out for the walk with us.

There isn't really any danger in these situations and sometimes I question what we are hoping to accomplish with our gigantic umbrellas that normally just result in us running into one another often. We should probably all just get out there and get wet, as some of our more adventurous members tend to.

During these times of year we will normally schedule all of our runs somewhere that has shelter at the end so that we can at least change into a dry shirt and get out of the storm at the end. We do still sit on the ice after all and as crazy as it sounds, we actually can get a big cold when the weather is like this.

Of course as sod's law dictates, by the time nearly everyone was back to the start point the rain completely stopped and it is a bit humorous how frequently this actually happens.
We are still in a state of "kind of being allowed to do this" in Chiang Mai so we are still asking would be attendees to contact us to make sure that we don't have too many people at the events. At the moment we have the green light from the police but it is very important to us that we maintain this good standing.
