THE APPRENTICE

I remember during my internship period, we had some hired craftmen, different expertise for some work and observing them, I came to this conclusion - We are all apprentices in the game of life but we all do not go about our apprenticeship in the same manner.

Below are the different kind of apprentices and the results they get out of life;

1. Those that do not want to learn under anyone. Ultimately they learn via mistakes and several scars.

2. ‎Those that decide to learn but are impatient with the process. Few weeks after gaining the basis of their chosen trade, they run off to start their own and take up the titles "C.E.O".

You'd find them doing mediocre things. They will spoil a client's work and get angry when addressed as incompetent. They are also the ones that client's get arrested due to the waste and damage caused by them.

3. ‎The ones that spent time with their masters, learnt the art, but not the skill and character.
It's one thing to know how to do a thing, it's another to be skillful at it. Character is a quality of skillfulness. Knowing the art may get you the job, but character and overall skillfulness determines if you're retained in the job.
 ‎
5. ‎The ones that learn the art, skill and character.
Igbo Kwenu!!! Yes, they make a perfect example of apprenticeship. They spend years learning, start their business, don't joke with punctuality and quality customer service.

6. The ones that have refused to learn a thing.
They have been there for years, but have not learnt a thing. Infact they cannot carry out the most basic task of the trade. You can't delegate anything to them. They are parasitic to the system; not adding value but getting from it, not leaving but bringing problem to it.

7. ‎The ones that learn, have spent time but have refused to graduate.
You will not always be an apprentice. A time comes where you need to graduate, start your own venture and train others too.

In modern day, we have a new term for apprenticeship; internship

Apprenticeship bears the following benefits
1. Serves as a platform to learn and make mistakes without direct cost
2. ‎Even in the worst conditions, you learn how to or how not to do a thing.
3. ‎You gain work experience
4. ‎You learn managerial skills and pick up other employability skills
5. ‎You improve your network via the privilege of quality contacts you make. They may come in handy in the future.
6. ‎You may end up getting retained as a full staff of the organization.

How to become an apprentice
1. Volunteer to serve a cause
2. ‎Intern with an organization. Use your holidays or gap year
3. ‎Read books of people whose results you admire. Watch their videos and listen to their audios. Most of the things you want to learn from them are shared in their books and audios.
