This is a rather large canvas for painting outdoors since the lighting changes so quickly, particularly on a sunny day.  With the rotation of our beautiful planet Earth, within two hours the light on a subject is very different.  So, I have no time to waste out there which means I have to plan what I need to tackle first and work as quickly as possible.  No dilly dallying around!  Also, that first impression must be held in memory somewhat as the lighting changes.

In this case, I was initially inspired by the sunlight on the roof in contrast to the beautiful violet cast shadow and the warm reflected light in the shadows of the house, and the blue curtain in the window.  I established those color relationships first knowing that the lighting change would be the most obvious there, while the rest of the subject wouldn't be as affected as much.
