Some people are like clouds. When they disappear,  its a beautiful day. Such people mostly found in positions of authority are like the mass of dust,  steam or smoke...  Anything that makes things and situations look foggy or gloomy. Instead of them to represent the good name of their citizens both in their country and abroad,  they are considered a package of disgrace by their people because rather than repair the negative image of the nation, they worsen it. This is evident in the speech recently delivered by the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force in kano state, Nigeria. His speech was incoherent,  and to make it worse,  he got stuck,  started stammering and repeating the word,  "transmission" which really shows gross incompetence of the highest form. There are only few situations shameful than that.

In reply to his embarrassing speech,  the Nigerian Police Force released a statement,  apologizing to Nigerians regarding the speech he made,  claiming that the writer of that speech is being interrogated,  and they are very sure that it is the handiwork of the past administration. Reading this got me irritated because I couldn't associate the incompetence with the past administration. 

These are familiar acts of the past administration, always blaming a past for problems that it lacks the temerity,  the effrontery and capacity to overcome. How do we hope to ever move forward when we are always letting our past define our future? Then, not just looking backwards,  but looking back without trying to profer  solutions. 

It is not wrong for speeches to be written for someone else to deliver. It could be blamed on the tight schedule. Moreover, how would speech writers exist if speeches can't be written for other people. It became a bad thing when the speech was not looked into for flaws and loopholes,  worsened by the boldness of the police force to use it as an excuse. Who even uses ignorance as an excuse? He didn't  try to understand what he was reading to avoid disgracing himself, he rather just continued saying transmission and stammering. 

I remember that immediately i saw the statement the Nigerian force issued,  I was so stunned beyond measures by such ludicrous effect and I decided to have an intellectual discussion with a friend to know his view as i was not about to be patronized by such erratic,  incoherent,  incongruous and illogical statement that was released. To my amazement,  my friend laughed and said if is only in Nigeria that can happen and infact, "Nigeria is hopeless and there is nothing that can be done to make it a better place". 

I totally disagree with his point of view because even though the difficult times in this country are dark clouds that pass overhead and block the sun from shining,  and everything seems dull,  dark and discouraging,  just like every cloud has a silver lining,  there is always an hope in every bad situation afterall,  hope is all we live for. Even though it's not apparent, there is always a solution. Even though the negativities seem to be at its peak, there is yet hope for Nigeria!
