But then I like even more the way you re-worked this idea of letting go into letting go of the things we do not truly want.

That's actually quite a different interpretation, at least in terms of the path and state of mind, to the traditional Buddhist sense of letting go. Maybe that's because is it hardly conceivable for us to go the path of an ascetic, retreating ourselves from the trappings of the world, while remaining relevant. 
The Buddhist path is really all about "surrender". When they say let go, what they're really saying is "accept". Accept what is. Accept what is not. 

In the eyes of a wise man, this may be feasible, but practically speaking, like you say, there is the problem of "how the fuck do I do that and what are you even talking about".

What's interesting is the way that the path you propose, which is definitely much more workable than the archaic "become an ascetic and stop worrying about the world" schtick of the Asiatic Buddhist esoteric philosophy, is that both ultimately are supposed to do what? Deliver us from suffering.

Like you say, if you let go of everything you don't want, and you're left with only things that you want, well have you not in a concrete sense put an end to your own suffering?

These words resonate deeply with me. I'm in the process of doing this exact work of visualizing what it is I want.

I've caught glimpses of it, and I certainly have a very clear idea of the things I don't want, yet which I still experience daily... (Smoking cigs, distracting myself with mindless entertainment, going to bed late and being tired the next day, to name the big ones I listed last night)

Actually I'm realizing that to re-wire our brain we have to tap into our natural reward pathway and hack it so that we can reprogram what feels like a reward.

One thing many people who were out of shape, and want to get into shape, always report as being one of the prime motivators and reasons for their success when they finally achieve that 6 pack bulging trapezoid physique, is the fact that for months and months, every day when they went to the gym, they could **_see that dream body_** that they wanted... That's the image that they had to keep in their mind, that's what made them make smart diet choices, that's what let them to resting when it was time to rest, and pumping iron when it was time to pump iron.

(I by the way don't really care much for the gym, but the same could be true with calesthnics, which I'm also trying to integrate in my list of regular good habits)

It's something I still am piecing together, but what's for sure is all these changes need to be made consciously... 

My mom used to tell me "Discipline is not forcing yourself to do something you don't want to. **_Discipline is remembering what it is you want._**"

To add to that, I've heard two other definitions of discipline that really jive well with a self-help state of mind.

"Discipline is Training." & "Discipline is doing what you want to do when you no longer feel like doing it"

Yes, I think this is a gradual process too. It's not something you have to tear away from yourself all at once. You can do it bit-by-bit and day-by-day. I started out by getting rid of a lot of my physical belongings and not buying more. That helped me start to take mental inventory in my life too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
