A hunger for God; a yearning or a desire to know him more is what draws one closer to God. There is no way you will know more of God if you have no desire of him. 

God draw near only to those who draw near him. He makes himself known and available to those who avail themselves to have and have an earnest desire for him.

David ones said powerful in the book of Psalms:

As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is your God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Psalm 42:1-4

This is so powerful! the desire of David was to come before God and spend time with Him. The psalmist’s longing to draw near to God in his temple is likened to the intense thirst of an animal that seeks water in a dry sunburnt country. Ungodly friends mock him for having such strong feelings for a God. 

Without water, a person would die and how much more if that person has run for hours and in need of water. 

This was the state in which David found himself, he was in need of God just as one who is gasping or breathing quickly for air or is thirst for water. 

Until you are so thirsty or hungry for his presence there is no way He will manifest himself to you. If spending time with God seems a hard thing for you then manifesting himself to you will be a hard thing for Him. 

Today, we see little manifestations and moves of God in our churches because many believers have so much time to spend elsewhere and the desire to for other things than God. 

Let's desire God more than anything.
