Beyond the road - Chapter I

In this opportunity I come to share an experience that I lived some years ago and I am sure it is worth telling. This was back then when I was studying at the lyceum, I was meeting with my closest friends and we decided to explore one of the areas that make up Ávila, which is currently known as the Waraira Repano. For those who have no idea, this is a gigantic mountain that surrounds a large part of some of the states of Venezuela, such as the Capital District, Miranda and Vargas. Once decided, we began to plan the things we needed to camp in the coming days. For my part try to wear clothes that would allow me to agree to the occasion, a pair of sports fabric pants, two (2) flannels and a sweater in case it was cold, the indispensable supply of water, a cavita full of rice with chicken prepared by My mother and of course a tent that I bought especially for the trip.

https://steemitimages.com/DQmdrC6bkcB9fKD4qrFvzxyfXnXNyfL7mx6F8bMVCVJfBDt/Panoramica_de_La_Monta%C3%B1a_el_Avila.JPG

When the expected day arrived, other friends joined us and we started the trip in a van to the hot city of Guatire, which would be the region of entry to start our expedition. I remember that I was excited and scared at the same time, since I had never done anything similar, much less to stay, but there I was with my panas that had the experience of camping in that majestic mountain. When arriving at the destination stop, we traveled a few blocks in which it was typical of the outskirts of Caracas, mountains and large houses.

We continued forward until we reached what would be a stable, which was the reference point that would indicate the entrance to the crossing. By that time it had been done at about 6:30 pm in the afternoon and the light of day was beginning to get dark. We crossed a fence and noticed the shelter of some horses, while we heard the sound of footsteps rushing towards our direction. Nearby, we saw a man who seemed to be the guardian of the compound, and immediately asks us the following question, "What are you doing at this time around here?" At that moment one of my friends answered that we are on our way to the mountain, Mr. he warns us that it is late and we must be careful with the snakes, since it had rained and they look for anything that is hot, my friend replies that he does not worry, that he has gone other times and knows the way, the lord observes us carefully and after a pause allows us to pass, saying, carefully go "God be with you", when we left we gave thanks and a little further away we saw a small cabin in which smoke was seen to come out, I thought, surely the man will have left from there.

After a while, the night had made an appearance, my friend the "guide" takes out a machete and lights what would be torches. I remember that I cut some dry branches of some small trees and at one end wrapped something that looked like rags in a very bad state, tied them with wire, I spilled some kerosene until finally he lit them with matches to distribute them among the members. of the group. I told another friend that I wish we had brought a camera to record, so we would see later what we had done.

On the way up, we officially stepped on the land of the mountain, we divided into small groups of three (3) and two (2), according to the amount of torches we had to light the way, which tells us the " Guide "which was very narrow since it was not very visited by hikers. There was a point that we had to alternate shifts to cut the bush with the machete, since it literally prevented us from going through its great height, besides running the risk of causing a fire accidentally. After an hour and a half, thirst and fatigue were felt, we sat down to rest and after a while the "guide" said "we must continue" when we get to the "first lookout point" we can camp. Unfortunately, the burning effect of the kerosene had lost its effect and we had to continue with the poor clarity of the night, we could only see the brightness of the earth that marked the road.

My partner felt very "tired", I told the others to continue, that I would wait for him to resume the air, then they continued and I waited, he told me to leave, "to leave him alone", which I am very funny and I told him you are crazy "I'm not going to leave you here", apparently his tension had dropped a little and he was saying nonsense, we waited like ten (10) minutes and he told me that he already felt better. Then we started to walk until we came to a fork, that is, the road had been divided into two (2) more roads, and none of us knew the right direction, we simply took the left side, the right one seemed to go downhill, the truth was not We had an idea and we could not stop, we walked like twenty (20) minutes more and we barely managed to see the surface of a hill, "bingo" was the first viewpoint.

To be continue...

Thanks for reading me
