I am an unusual amalgam of nerd and jock, I have been fascinated by programming for most of my life but I also love cycling on my BMX ([a smaller bicycle ideal for freestyle tricks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMX))

A BMX is a fantastic workout. It has no gears, tiny cranks *(the bars your pedals attach to)* and is so small that the seat must be a joke by the creator intended to irreversibly combine your knees and handlebars. When I was younger I used to cycle everywhere because I had no transport and I was at the stage of life where a six-pack greatly increased your chances with women and thus your quality of life. While cycling however I have had my foot literally shredded and was frequently hit by cars, not the quality of life I had hoped for.

Many people assume that this was due to recklessness on my part and I suppose they are right in a way. It wasn't because I cycled in a stupid way but I cycled in Pinetown, this is roughly equivalent to committing suicide as the drivers there seem to be both blind and sadistic. I tried a number of tactics which I will explain below

 - When I first started cycling I would try to stay as far away from the road as possible, I thought that this would allow me to avoid the cars and of-course the accidents. I couldn't have been more wrong...
 - Where I lived the road markings appeared to be the work of an insane graffiti artist *(this is obviously an exaggeration)*. The yellow lines frequently vanished on one side of the road, leaving me at the mercy of traffic. In vain I fled to the other side of the road, attempting to hide from the malicious gaze of the blind drivers, once I was hit trying to cross said road, then I was intentionally hit on the other side of the road by an indignant woman who took offense to the meager amount of space I occupied on her precious road. She then attempted to have her husband arrest me for damaging her mirror<br><br>
 - Once I was taught the error of my ways I hid on the left side of the road and went off-road when the insane graffiti artist did not see fit to provide me with a safe haven. My actions again proved fruitless, a number of times I was struck by drivers who would turn left directly through me, without indicating after stopping at a red robot directly beside me. To all those that challenge my earlier accusation regarding the drivers of the area if this does not convince you then perhaps you too have cycled in Pinetown but regrettably lack my superior skull

Rather than bore you with an extensive list of my failed attempts to thwart the vicious drivers I will explain the solution. Once I had become a veteran of vehicular warfare I learned the age old lesson: a good offense is the best defense. Now if you see me cycling you will likely avoid me as I fly down the middle of the road steering with my knees as I enjoy the wind, terrified drivers scattering before me as I proceed unmolested.

I hope that you have found this story entertaining and informative. I also pray that you do not live in the Durban area as it is bad enough already. I enjoyed writing this so much that I may write another explaining where the idea of steering with my knees came from
