<h1>CFTC Chairman Wants Light Handed Approach To Cryptocurrencies</h1>
The Chairman of the U.S Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), [J. Christopher Giancarlo expresses his opinion how cryptocurrency regulations should be approached](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/14/do-no-harm-in-regulating-cryptocurrencies-but-be-vigilant-cftc.html) at a Singapore Summit September 14, 2018.
He feels that cryptocurrencies in general should be governed tolerantly similar to the approach taken by regulators in dealing with the internet during its early days.
However, the commissioner also recognizes that risk of fraud and manipulation is prevalent in the space and they should be cautious when it comes to policymaking making sure the illicit activities will not be able to thrive in the space.
The position of Giancarlo seems to echo sentiments of the newly appointed SEC commissioner Elad Roisman, who favors an approach that is fair and transparent when it comes to dealing with the nascent industry.
<h1>Institutional-Focused Coinbase Office In New York</h1>

Coinbase New York office seeks to accommodate and appeal to institutional investors who are looking for exposure to crypto assets and blockchain technologies.
Coinbase’s new office just completed its ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, holding a series of events and talks to introduce institutions to what it has to offer.
There is also an information released that the company plans to expand the number of its employees, many of whom were poached from New York Stock Exchange, Barclays and Citigoup, from 20 to 150, a clear sign that even on market conditions many institutional investors are still clamoring to cryptocurrencies.
Many of these investors see that current crypto market’s state is a perfect market condition to enter into the space.
<h1>Cryptocurrency Exchange Laws Introduced In Mexico</h1>
[Local exchanges in Mexico are now required to secure a permit from the Bank of Mexico](https://cryptoslate.com/mexican-government-introduces-laws-for-crypto-exchanges/) before it can begin to operate in the country.
Once permit is secured cryptocurrency exchanges and crypto related custody providers can provide fiat liquidity to all customers that is guaranteed by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) Under the terms of “General Provisions on operations related to electronic payment funds.”
To secure such, a crypto exchanges or cryptocurrency related business should be able to prove legitimacy of their business and present a detailed business plan to Banxico.
With the new law in place there will be a slight increase in scrutiny of digital assets of consumers, as all assets acquired after cryptocurrency payout will be subject to validation checks imposed by the government.
The initiative might cause some inconvenience of cryptocurrency users but will bring unprecedented legitimacy to the space at least in the country.
<h1>Korean Government To Use Samsung’s Blockchain To Fight Customs Fraud</h1>
[The Korean Customs Service has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see Samsung’s Nexledger blockchain utilized in its new decentralized clearance system in its latest bid to fight fraud](https://www.samsungsds.com/global/ko/about/news/Blockchain_Nexledger.html).
It was reported that around 48 local organizations also signed the MoU to participate as nodes on the distributed network to bring more transparency to the customs process.
These institutions came from public agencies, shipping companies as well as insurance firms.
The new platform that the agency started working on since May of this year is designed to fundamentally block document fraud.
This project is in line with the South Korean government’s overall agenda for driving blockchain adoption in public services and has allocated dedicated government funding to realize this agenda.
There are about 6 major pilot blockchain projects for public services and customs clearance is one of them.
<h1>Bittrex Expanding To Malta</h1>
Bittrex, an American cryptocurrency exchange based in Seattle is reported [to be expanding its operation in Malta](https://news.bitcoin.com/bittrex-crypto-exchange-malta/) which will launch early next month.
With this new platform it is expected that exchange will be able to list coins quicker and be able to operate within the regulatory framework established by the European Union and the Maltese government.
The Bittrex International, a subsidiary of Bittrex that has been established in Malta will be overseeing all its overseas operations.
The CEO of Bittrex revealed its launching in a conference organized by Dunamu Inc. the operator of Upbit which is the local partner of Bittrex in South Korea.
In the said conference the CEO also expresses his satisfaction working with Dunamu and states that that is the type of partnership his company is looking for which can handle work with local regulations and banks while they concentrate making their exchange work better.
