The lyrics of this song were inspired by a conversation I had with my good friend Marty. We were talking about the mystery of age and how it feels to get older but retain that youthful spirit. Man, I really need to start doing my vocal exercises again! I feel off my singing game. Anyway, I recorded everything in Garageband. The bass part, drum part, piano, synth, and woodwinds were played on my Yamaha Montage keyboard. All the vocal harmonies were sung by me, recorded by a Blue Snowflake mic. I'm gonna keep on making these demos and stick 'em away for potential use. If anyone wants to collab on any of them, let me know! Its nice but if you sung harmonies only in the chorus part, it would make it sound even better. Quite monotonous from the beginning to end. I mean just to break the monotony, you could have done that.

Yeah, that's true @himshweta. I tend to overuse vocal harmonies, maybe. I dig their smooth sound, haha. Thanks for the feedback. It's funny because all of the bands I was in I always sang back up, not lead. So I still feel more comfortable with the harmony vocals.

If I made this into a full song, it'd most likely have more sections to provide contrast. As far as this version, I was thinking more smooth-jazz, chill background music.

Really like this. I like the way the hats feel behind the beat. Makes for a really interesting pushing and pulling feeling. Really interesting. I do agree with @himshweta. Tracking harmonies through the whole thing can get a bit monotonous. You make some really good harmonic choices, use them sparingly and they'll create some amazing moments of ear candy. Hey @fireandspice, I appreciate the comment. Yeah I was playing with some swing vs. straight throughout. I think what made the monotonous feeling was mainly the fact that there was no C-section/bridge as I would normally write for a full song, rather than the harmonies. I think you'd be surprised how great dense harmonies throughout a whole song can sound, provided there are other aspects providing variation.

I plan to treat these songs similarly to how I have been treating the poetry that I've released in the past few months: rough sketches that share my daily experimentation, rather than finished products. Partly because I don't really have much audio engineering knowledge, either.

Definitely welcome the input, because it'll help me improve future stuff! I think something that is a bit of a challenge for me in any artistic medium is to overcome my tendency to be more theoretical/conceptual rather than intuitive. When I do, it's easier to achieve those ear-candy moments though! Have a great one and thanks for checking it out!

I like the synthesizer in this one. The flute mode flies like a song bird. It's homegrown music and your voice is hanging on. After two minutes the music fades out but I don't think it's finished. I can see a change and resolution in verse 2 although it doesn't exist yet. It is to be born.


That's the cool thing about DSound. This work can be picked up and personalized around the world. Anyone can join in.
