Mom always gets nervous when she has to take her blood pressure at her doctor's. I guess it is just one of those things. Some people are afraid to fly and some people have to deal with the white coat syndrome.
You see, Mom is OK with taking blood pressure at home and usually it is normal, but when she takes it at Kaiser then it really goes up.
So I really don't put any concern into it. Even when I take my own blood pressure, if it is too high I just relax and go into a thought, mind games kind of thing and most of the time I can really bring it down.
I just don't know how to teach Mom how I do that. So anyway we get to where she needs to go and right away a nurse is weighing her, then the blood pressure test. It goes high like into the 200's on the first number. Yes that is high, but I can get that high too, if I find myself really scared.
The doctor asks why this is so. I just tell her that Mom gets nervous even in the parking lot of Kaiser. Mom sometimes takes her blood pressure device with her and she measures it in the car before we get to the building. Well, right there it is already climbing up. Mom is afraid that they will give her even more medicine than they are already giving her is why she has all this anxiety. Well, what you going to do?
It doesn't help when the nurse is say, Oh my, your blood pressure is really high, then she takes the blood pressure again, I can feel those words adding to Moms anxiety. I would rather she say something a little different, then just take the blood pressure again something like, "Lets try this again. Now just relax."
You see how some words can increase the anxiety? Well, anyway that is the way I would do it if I were the nurse.
So anyway after the blood pressure test we got to see the woman doctor. Well, she didn't want to let Mom go home just then, cause her blood pressure was too high. So they put her in another room to rest and they gave her a pill of some kind of blood pressure medication, then we waited for awhile.
We waited so long that I was thinking, What if mom had some of that CBD oil? I was thinking that might have helped her. Just give her a little right before she has to take the blood pressure test.
Well, it was a thought. I don't even know where to get stuff like that. Maybe order it on the internet.
Well, anyway the nurse came to us and tested Mom on another machine twice and twice it read as an error. Then she rolled up the machine that she used when we first got there today.
Well, that reading went way up. So the doctor came and visited that room and I told her that they tried twice to take the blood pressure with the machine that was in the room, but both times it was in error.
So the doctor ordered to have a manual blood pressure reading and when she did that the blood pressure went lower, but still high, but at least lower. So now they want to see my mom in 2 weeks and we have to do it all over again. I think Mom has to add in a medicine that she stopped using, in addition to the other medicines that she has been taking.
So hopefully it will workout better then.
