When you die, it is normal that you'll be forgotten. What will live on is your legacy and the impacts you made on people's life.

Let's strive to impart and make impact in people's life cause that's what matters most.

Not even a blip on the radar that is the cosmos. It's what we make of it for ourselves that makes it worthwhile :)

My father in law died at age 105.
He'd outlived two wives 
and several of his  children
and everyone he knew in his generation...

The more we remember our ancestors the more power we gain from their memory. We should all take time whenever possible to reflect on our ancestors, and give them thanks for getting us to where we are today. They sacrificed more than we can imagine to bring us to this point, and they deserve to be honored.

In this world we will all die.So I am not worries for death anymore. I think in this world, we will keep our memories alive.So after our death none of us will remember in this world. Remember our deeds and memories. . Wonderful post @denmarkguy

Coming to the main thing ...it is true and it happens like all around the world.....people do remember fir sometime especially at the time of death & then only memories remain in the hearts of loved ones...these memories also are volatile dont remain for a long time even if does gets buried inside the earth....

Not sure everyone around me will be dead. My grandmother just turned 105 years and is going strong. I guess we live healthier than you Danes. Anyway, your mother lives on in you, not only in biological sense but also through countless lessons, mannerisms and the way you like your food, all these invisible things that have been imprinted on you. And that you are imprinting on your children matter. We live on in the food we eat, the jokes we like.
Besides go to ancestry or check your dna. You might be surprised at how many people share your genetic makeup. It was a surprise to me... but how far does your memory of your ancestors go ?

I can feel that you will not be forgotten because even if your children are not biologocally your I know in their heart you are their dad and your love will be remembered,

There is only this moment of Now. Past and future are thought constructs which are non-existent actually. All creations take place in the Now, so our creation's longevity and beauty shares a symbiotic relationship with our focus. Whenever we focus on past or future while creating, our thoughts drag us to outcome instead of the joy during the process. Thing is, when our attention is dragging us to past or future in the meanwhile, then the work is not fulfilling, while being in the Now means Heart-based Joy is a guarantee because we forget everything else around so much joy it I still in us. The Art lies in the "He-Art".
So I think that this very Heart we gave to others creates the most artistic, wonderful and succinct memory in them when they think of us. This itself is our legacy. That they remember our Heartfulness, and in doing so try to emulate that Heart focus. The Heart focus is always on the Now. So I don't think about leaving a legacy because it would drag me into the future outcome, thus I lose Heart focus. 

That is my take on it :)

I’m not concerned about leaving behind a legacy, but since I live in a foreign country and will probably be buried here, and also because I’ve taught thousands of students and have been photographed at many school events, I sometimes wonder who will remember me and in what ways.

Just as it is more important (in my and some others' humble opinions) to love than to be loved......

It is far, far more important to remember than to be remembered!


What thoughts, emotions, sensations, and/or experiences will survive the devastation and dissolution of death and the decomposition of your physical body? In any organized and coherent fashion? Anything at all?

Do I have a second (astral) body, or not, which survives death?

 Do I have a "soul" which survives the death of the physical body?

I have a contrary opinion: that it is important to "die before you die", to practice going through, at least in thought and emotion, the death experience in practice before the "main event" :-)

Not that I am saying this is your stance, but just saying in general, wanting to leave an earthly **"legacy"** as a homage to your ego is, again IMHO, a fool's errand. And that despite the fact that this seems to be the greatest ambition of many **"great"** people.

Reading you're post reminded me of something someone said to me once, 

*When do you think a person dies?*

*When the are shot in the head by a bullet?*

*When they are ravaged by an **incurable** disease*

*When they drink a soup made from poisonous mushroom?*

**No....it's when they are forgotten**

I try to live my life by this code, so that people remember a hundred years after my death.

One day someone might say "shit that guy left a lot of strange crap on the internet" but I won't be around to hear them...

My Mother and I actually had this conversation and she said people remember you for about 50 years and then you are gone.

I meditate and connect on another level and have an awareness that I am not the body.  Attachment to this body is strong however one day like you say we must leave it behind.  I enjoyed your post and am resteeming it for others to enjoy! 🎀

After loosing both parents within a couple of years of one another, it became much more apparent just how alone we are in this world. 
Leaving a legacy seems to become more important as we age. I must say that loving others has always  been more important than any other kind of mark I could possibly leave on this world.  Let’s just hope that is enough.
