"DTube is Too Slow & Too Difficult To Use" - My Response To Some Criticisms that Have Come Across My Page

The fact that the steem blockchain is actually fully operational is a miracle in and of itself.  The fact that there is a platform similar to YouTube in DTube is even more of a miracle.  In any innovation, there will always be speed problems.  You get a competitive advantage by being faster, cheaper and better.  When it comes to new technologies however, speed eventually comes.  It's just a matter of time.  So that is and never will be a deal breaker for DTube.  Speed will come.  It's just a matter of time and innovation.

When it comes to the EASE or lack thereof DTube, I don't really think it's that difficult to use DTube.  In fact, it's one of the easiest sites to use.  Just drag your video in a box.  Make a title.  Write in the Description.  Tag.  Upload a snap.  You're done.  ANYBODY can use it.  What they might have been referring to are common errors that occur.  With that, I do agree that errors occur.  In any platform in its infancy errors will occur.  And just like the speed issue.  They will take care of themselves.

Just think about this for a second.  Your videos are going up on a blockchain.  Forever.  It is decentralized.  Nobody can silence you.  Nobody can demonetize you.  No single central authority gets 90% of the profits.  And it's WORKING!!!  It's actually WORKING guys! :D

DTube is the future.  It may not be there yet, but it's going in that direction.

hey man @dnews, not new to me though, i mean, even if all is going on fine without bugs, you will sure find those who would complain, there is no social media platform that got it right from the onset, the facebook team do update the app every now and then.

With little more patience, Dtube will sure get there.

Can i use my phone to participate in Dtube.? It appears that almost everyone is into it. I have tried to do it with my phone but to no avail. Is it that I am not doing it correctly.

Yeah join the DTube fam!  Unfortunately right now you'll have to use a laptop or desktop to upload.  You can view videos on it, but I still haven't been able to upload with my cellphone.  Maybe others have.  They're working it out.  I'm sure we'll see something in the next update :) I think if you have an Android you might be able to.  I'll try next time I have my hands on an android, but I use an iPhone.

I believe because the dtube upload uses torrent you’re not able to do it on iPhone or iPad, I’m not sure about android I believe it should be possible but you might have to root your phone to allow access to the process required for torrent uploads.

I agree also, this platform is growing and people just need to be patient. 

I found that by compressing my HD videos down to 720p it helped with uploading. A tip I learned from @paulsmuts :) 
I also have trouble posting comments directly on Dtube so I just post on Steemit for now. 

Wish I could make it out to the meetup but I moved from Toronto to Vancouver last year lol. 

Maybe we can organize a meetup out here...

My biggest issue that I can't wait to see fixed is the way uploaders have to compress their videos to such a low quality in order for them to upload without issue. A lot of the videos on here look like they were filmed with a potato but I have faith that things will get ironed out and we will have an amazing experience in the future.

Don't we all hate those Potato cameras?  So 1980s.  :D

The larger the file, the longer the upload.  I think that's why for now, people are settling with 720 or 480.  I personally upload in 720.  I used to upload in 1080 and I just realized it's so much faster at 720 so I've been sticking with that.  It'll get worked out :)

To be honest I've also been experiencing difficulties of my own trying to upload a video on DTube. Been trying to upload for 3 days to no effect. But I do understand that DTube is still fairly new and in Beta. So I'll keep trying until I get it right. It's in continuous development and I'm sure it's gonna improve with time.

Quick questions though... I haven't been able to directly post comments on Dtube. Any thoughts? am I missing something?

Also, is there any way to use html editing on the video description to make it look like a proper blog entry back over steemit?

Yes there is!  Just click on the "advanced" tab when you're uploading and you can see the steemit article blog  :D hope that helped!

With commenting - I'm not too sure. I can comment fine on my mac and also pc computers and also on my iPhone.  Are you using android?

Fibre Optics here..... takes 5 mins tops as long I am not stuck in queue . Sometimes 3 attempts for it to be accepted into queue if its too long of a wait I believe caused by bandwidth issues, torrent nodes sharing the files being uploaded must get priority.

I wonder if there is a way of supporting the torrent network being used for hosting #dtube ..... hey @dtube can I help support the video sharing network? I have a wicked connetion! 25MB up 150MB down no data limit.

I will continue to resteem your work, I am so excited to see the results from this giveaway meetup!

Don't know if it reads from me like I think it does but I struggle with positivity, I roll with it though, there are necessary criticisms and if I can grow from them isn't that positivity in a cynical hue?

I guess I should have skype setup on my all In one if need be, I highly recommend discord the app has come a long way and I believe there is talks about crypto adoption(4chan could be false). Anyways I believe the app will take over because anyone can host their own server.... colaberation?

I liked the video and I agree with what you said about the first point. However, I do personally disagree on the second part.

Speed does get faster, yes. But every situation you used was a situation where there was no better (faster) alternative at the time, DTube is different because right here, right now, we have much faster alternate platforms. Will it get worked out in time? I have no doubt. But for me personally speed is the biggest problem with DTube right now. I don't want to even bother browsing videos here because it is too slow for me (yes, I do have gigabit internet and am very particular about speeds haha), and like I said, other platforms are currently just so much faster. DTube has potential, and in time it will get better for sure. For now though, the experience here is just too painfully slow for me. 

On a side note, video buffering is also far too long. I am not sure how it is hosted currently as I know they were asking for seeders a while ago. But it's definitely another factor that makes watching videos here no enjoyable an experience currently.

I did enjoy your video though, and definitely agree that the future is bright :)

Sorry, I should have made that more clear! Nothing on the block chain, I meant platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo. But when you say it like that I realise that they aren't really alternatives as they are completely different platforms. 

I guess what I meant is alternatives for viewing, as for the viewer it doesn't matter if it's on a block chain or not, as long as it works and is pleasant to use. 

I tried to watch some videos yesterday and they stopped in the middle to buffer :/ When they can fix the speeds I will love DTube though!
