The police decided to take out an ad in the paper highlighting the need to 'stand up for Boston's Finest', insisting that they've got some of the "best officers in the world".

# It isn't because of a few officers in another part of the country that there is a growing call for police reform.

There have been problems with law enforcement agents *around the country for years now*. From Chicago to Washington, California, and elsewhere. And Boston is not immune to that corruption.

# Officers from Massachusetts have also been found engaging in unconstitutional behavior.

Based on previous investigations, like one by the DOJ in 2018, they've determined that some officers in the region have allegedly engaged in a culture, *a practice or pattern if you will*, of excessive force and unconstitutional behavior. This was determined long before any of the recent events took place in 2020.

# Their Rule of Law and Due Process Mean Nothing When There Is A Culture Of Corruption, Excessive Force, and Unconstitutional Behavior That Has Taken Place.
That needs to change and it needs to change desperately, for the sake of every individual living in the country who doesn't want their civil liberties to be unjustly violated. Law enforcement agents need to be held accountable.

# Massachusetts *has the worst civil [forfeiture laws in the entire country](https://ij.org/pfp-state-pages/pfp-massachusetts/)*.

Some of 'the best officers in the world' would know better than engaging in behavior that blatantly violates constitutional rights. But that isn't what we find in this state, we find a culture of abuse with the frequency with which they engage in civil asset forfeiture. This means many innocent people are having their assets *unjustly taken away from them* by agents of the state. That doesn't sound like a culture that should be applauded by any means, or that people should just *look away* and pretend there isn't a big issue that needs to be cleaned up.

If they want to inspire respect, then *at the very least* they could respect the restraints that the constitution affords, and they could choose to uphold civil liberties rather than violate them.
